Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences is seeking a Child and Youth Counsellor’s (CYC). Adolescents with complex eating disorders and other comorbid mental illness work in partnership with the multidisciplinary team, their family and involved community agencies to learn about their illness, enhance their independence and coping skills, and develop the tools necessary to prosper within the community through peer interaction, group treatment and individual therapy in the service of recovery.
The CYC must have the ability to provide evaluation, assessment and therapeutic interventions in a strength-based model of care incorporating modern mental health techniques and the principals of Child and Youth Counseling in a psychiatric setting. The successful incumbent fosters a culture of trust, leadership, dependability and accountability in providing a safe, healthy and stimulating environment for adolescents. Working as a member of the Inter-professional team, the CYC assists in creating management programs for individuals and groups, in order to stabilize a variety of psychiatric disorders. The CYC will provide life skills training through formalized instructions and example; assist co-workers in a classroom, day treatment setting, family therapy or other on-going therapies; use appropriate techniques to diffuse extremes in behavior; manage psychiatric crisis and assess mental status. Some travel may be required.
