About the Role
The Undergraduate Advisor offers undergraduate advising and support to the Department of Mathematics in the Faculty of Science.
The Undergraduate Advisor advises potential and registered undergraduate students of the academic requirements for the Faculty of Science degree programs and screens applications for undergraduate study. The role administers the undergraduate registration process, programs of study, and graduation activities, interviews students on academic probation and coordinates the articulation of post-secondary transfer credit requests. The role is part of the Science Strategic Enrollment management team and liaises with advising staff across the Faculty of Science and the University, as well as University student support centres. The role supports recruitment, retention, and engagement activities within the Department and the Faculty of Science.
Qualifications
Undergraduate degree and three years of related experience in post-secondary program advising and registration services, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, communication (both verbal and written) and organizational skills.
- Excellent analytical reasoning and problem solving skills.
- Excellent interview and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to use standard office database, spreadsheet, presentation applications (i.e. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Filemaker, Adobe Acrobat), and web publishing application (i.e. Adobe Experience Manager, Photoshop, Illustrator etc.).
- Ability to use enterprise-level information systems (i.e. FacSIMS, PeopleSoft SIMS etc.).
- Ability to use social media applications (i.e Facebook, Twitter, etc.).
- Ability to exercise mature judgment, initiative, diplomacy and tact.
- Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures.
