Job description

The Link is hiring! Come grow with us, walk along side people in our community as we grow strong & resilient together. We are seeking candidates with strong character that share our vision for a brighter future; people of action who can support the resilience and potential in people. We honor and strive to model through our actions the traditional Seven Teachings of the Anishinaabe: Love, Respect, Courage, Honesty, Wisdom, and Humility & Truth.

About The Link: Youth and Family Supports

For more than 90 years, The Link has helped youth and families on a journey to healing, hope, and better lives. The organization is dedicated to walking alongside children, youth, and families as an inclusive community, strengthening and empowering a sense of being, pride, and purpose. With over 15 diverse programs, The Link has a community of caring staff that work together to provide support through a 24-hour crisis line, youth resource centers, emergency shelters, mobile crisis teams, specialized foster care, healing homes, job readiness supports, and Skills4Life. With a strong foundation within the community and a focus on connection, unity, and compassion, the organization provides a vital link for youth and families in the province of Manitoba.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Community Investment Coordinator serves as a keeper ofstories for The Link, advancing fund development and communications in ways that uplift the children, youth, and families we serve. Grounded in a First Nations worldview that understands story as relationship, responsibility, and renewal, this position cultivates the resources, partnerships, and public understanding required to sustain prevention, healing, and belonging across the continuum of service.

POSITION SCOPE/IMPACT OF ERROR

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Community Investment Coordinator works closely with leadership, program teams, the Youth Council, Elders and Knowledge Carriers, families, donors, funders, and community partners. The position leads donor cultivation, grants, sponsorships, and signature campaigns, and stewards the gathering, holding, and respectful sharing of stories across fundraising and communications channels. Errors in this position may affect donor trust, revenue stability, public understanding of The Link’s direction, and the dignity of those whose experiences are shared. Sound judgment, cultural humility, and discretion are essential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Keeper of Stories

•Gather, hold, and share the stories of children, youth, families, Elders, and staff with consent, cultural protocol, and dignity.

•Work alongside the Youth Council, program teams, Knowledge Carriers, and families to listen for the teachings within lived experience and translate them into communications that strengthen identity, belonging, and public understanding.

•Apply trauma-informed, reciprocal storytelling practice — returning stories to those they belong to and honoring people rather than representing them.

•Maintain records of consent, cultural review, and story lifecycle across donor, funder, community, and public-facing materials.

Fund Development

•Develop, deliver, and evaluate an annual fund development plan aligned with the organization’s direction and long-term sustainability goals.

•Lead individual giving, monthly giving, major gifts, planned giving, corporate sponsorships, third-party events, and signature campaigns.

•Research, write, and submit proposals to foundations, government funders, and granting bodies, with an emphasis on diversified, multi-year funding that sustains prevention, healing, and post-care.

•Cultivate and steward long-term relationships with donors, sponsors, and funders as partners in the work, grounded in reciprocity and transparency.

Communications

•Steward The Link’s evolving identity — ensuring consistent voice, language, and visuals across partnerships, funding submissions, and public materials that reflect its direction as a Nation-led organization.

•Develop and publish donor appeals, newsletters, impact reports, annual reports, campaign collateral, and stewardship materials.

•Coordinate media relations, public statements, and announcements in collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer.

•Support internal communications, including organization-wide updates, change communications, and staff engagement materials in partnership with Leadership.

Community Relations and Partnership

•Strengthen reciprocal relationships with First Nations leadership, Indigenous organizations, Metis and Inuit partners, community groups, service clubs, and corporate partners.

•Support Nation-to-Nation engagement, community forums, ceremonial gatherings, and partner activities in ways that reflect cultural protocols.

•Represent The Link at community gatherings, donor meetings, and fundraising events as an ambassador of its mission and identity.

•Engage in ongoing learning with Elders, Knowledge Carriers, and the land-based team, integrating teachings into the practice of fund development, storytelling, and communications.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

•Post-secondary education in fund development, communications, marketing, public relations, non-profit management, Indigenous studies, or a related discipline.

•Equivalent combinations of education and lived/professional experience will be considered.

•Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation, or progress toward CFRE, is considered an asset.

Experience

•Minimum 3–5 years of progressive experience in fund development, communications, donor relations, grant writing, or community engagement.

•Demonstrated success in donor cultivation, campaign delivery, grant writing, and content development across digital and print channels.

•Experience developing storytelling and communications content with children, youth, and families using trauma-informed, consent-based, and culturally safe approaches.

•The ability to speak a First Nations language is a definite asset.

•Experience working within a non-profit, community-based, or Indigenous-led organization.

•Experience working with or alongside First Nations communities, youth, families, Elders, or Knowledge Carriers is a strong asset.

Conditions of Employment

  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, a clear Child Abuse Registry check with acceptable Prior Contact checks and a clear Adult Abuse Registry check, all done within the last 3 months.

Accommodations are available for applicants with disabilities upon request. If you are contacted by The Link regarding a job opportunity, please know that you are welcome to request an accommodation at any point in the process. All information received regarding accommodations will be kept confidential.

Position status: Full-Time permanent 35 hours/week.

Posting End Date: Open until filled.

Site: The Link: Youth and Family Supports

Work Location: 175 Mayfair Avenue

Salary Range: Dependent upon qualifications.
