Associate Producer, Morning Edition (English Services) (On-Site)

Your role

CBC Saskatchewan is looking for an associate producer to join our team working on our morning current affairs radio show based in Regina. This is an on-site permanent fulltime role.

Under the direction of the producer, you will chase and produce compelling radio interviews and stories that provide audiences with the news and community connection points they need to know each day.

Your story pitches will reflect the breadth and complexity of the experience in Regina and the rest of Saskatchewan. You have an abundance of original ideas and great community contacts. You find creative ways to treat the news stories of the day on. You will be keen to leave the building, and gather stories in the community. The program lives in and sounds like this place.

You see the full audio, video and digital possibilities of your story pitches.

You know how to gather, write, edit, and package content for current affairs radio – and you’re driven to expand the reach of the Morning Edition to audiences on digital, social and visual platforms. You will strive to broaden the range of perspectives, experiences and points of view reflected on our programming, especially those from people who have been traditionally underrepresented in the media.

As someone with a deep working knowledge of Saskatchewan, you understand its political landscape and its resource-driven economy. Your work highlights how these issues affect the day-to-day lives of the people who live here. You also know what makes this place special. And you work to get your stories in front of our broad range of audiences, on radio, online, social, TV and streaming.

Your responsibilities:

  • Pitch and produce original stories that deepen The Morning Edition’s community connections and elevate a range of voices.
  • Chase and book guests and stories that reflect the day’s top local news
  • Conduct research and interviews, gather audio and video, write radio scripts, and package and present content.
  • Assist the producer in building show lineup and run sheets.
  • Direct The Morning Edition as required.
  • Chase breaking stories.
  • Support station-wide initiatives, including the video strategy.
  • Ensure the program has ample opportunity for audience interaction.

Your profile:

  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced daily news environment.
  • Ability to generate, pitch and pursue strong story ideas.
  • A strong proven connection to the communities we serve in both Regina and the province.
  • An understanding of Saskatchewan’s political landscape, economic drivers and demographics.
  • A proven work ethic and a positive team-first attitude.
  • Superior writing, vetting and editing skills.
  • Willingness to learn and tackle new tasks across all CBC platforms (Video, radio, digital).
  • Sound news judgment and ability to work effectively under newsroom deadline pressure.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; a standout colleague.
  • A strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance company, other classes considered an asset.
  • University degree in journalism or equivalent with a minimum of two years of recent, related experience.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including early starts, late finishes and weekends.

Please include any additional documentation or a link to your best work or website in your cover letter.

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.

We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
