Job description

We are seeking motivated public health internships to support the development of large language model (LLM)-powered tools that enhance BlueDot’s infectious disease intelligence system.

Students will gain practical experience prototyping, validating and improving AI systems that deliver high standards of accuracy and nuanced epidemiological expertise. Students will also be asked to contribute to validation frameworks that demonstrate the real-world impact of your work. In both cases, students will be embedded in highly experienced technical teams and will gain first-hand experience in working in a dynamic, fast-moving and dedicated team.

If you are interested in a role that blends epidemiological expertise, hands-on experience with AI, teamwork and tangible real-world impact, we look forward to receiving your application.

In this role, you will:

  • Learn about the application of AI technology and data science towards global infectious disease surveillance in the private sector.
  • Develop and document tools that use large language models (LLMs) to support global infectious disease surveillance.
  • Create automated data processing tools aligned with epidemiologist and client requirements.
  • Support outbreak intelligence analyses and assist with ad hoc analytical requests.
  • Contribute to evaluation frameworks and documentation for LLM products and related processes.

Preferred skills/experience:

  • Familiarity with epidemiology, public health surveillance, or infectious disease data.
  • Experience working with large language models or natural language processing tools is a strong asset.
  • Ability to design and evaluate analytical tools, including performance assessment frameworks.
  • Comfortable interpreting quantitative and qualitative data and communicating insights clearly.
  • Collaborative mindset and experience working with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Strong motivation to deliver practical, real-world impact

What we offer:

  • A paid internship for up to 8 months
  • Meaningful work that truly has purpose
  • Direct mentorship from experienced senior team members
  • Experience shipping real code used daily by a growing company
  • As a smaller, agile team, we offer roles with impact
  • Your contributions are integral, your voice will be heard
  • A generous, well-rounded benefits package

BlueDot recognizes that challenges remain in achieving the full participation of equity-seeking groups (including women, Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities, members of visible minority/racialized groups, and members of LGBTQ2+) in tech careers and is committed to identifying and eliminating barriers that may exist within its own hiring process, programs, and practices.

While decisions to advance candidates are made entirely by our team, BlueDot may use AI for basic screening of applicants. This posting is for an existing vacancy. Expected annual salary is likely to be approximately $20 per hour based on experience and qualifications. The final offer may vary depending on the role level and scope determined during the interview process.

BlueDot is committed to fair and accessible employment practices. If you are contacted for a job opportunity, please let us know how we can best meet your needs and advise us of any accommodations required to ensure fair and equitable access throughout the recruitment and selection process.

We thank and appreciate all applicants for their interest. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted. Please no agency calls.
