What is the project?

The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This will involve:

• A5 km-long tunnel, built by a pressurized TBM (10.5 m diameter slurry TBM);
• Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore);
• An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed.

The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination.

What you will do:

The Chief Surveyor is accountable for overseeing and managing the surveying team in the collection of monitoring data. Establishing the manual monitoring and supervising the daily survey activities.

Concretely, your tasks will be:

• Management of the in tunnel, LU/LO and surface monitoring teams.
• Accountable for the accurate acquisition of data
• Collection of all monitoring data in time for daily review
• Accountable for the data programming of the tunnel guidance software
• Liaise with JV SCL Engineering team and the Client in relation to daily monitoring reports for the sites and deal with any associated queries
• Develop junior members of staff within the team
• Attend daily SRG (Shift Review Group) meeting if required and feed back to team as necessary
• Manage resources and equipment available to team for monitoring activities
• Organise additional survey resource if and when required to cover additional works instructed by the Client.
• Demonstrate a personal commitment to safety
• Participate towards continuous improvement
• Ensure environmental compliance
• Contribution to the sustainability agenda
  

Your skills:

• Degree in Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Surveying, or a related field.
• 10 years of experience in construction surveying, in heavy civil works ideally with tunnel or underground projects.
• Extensive knowledge of SCL tunnel monitoring, construction & surveying
• Previous strong experience in managing a large team across split locations
• Experience of monitoring systems geodetic & geotechnical
• Very good knowledge of computer systems and modern survey equipment with data transmission.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work in multidisciplinary and multicultural project environments.
• A proactive, field‑oriented mindset with strong problem‑solving capabilities.
• Experience working in nuclear‑regulated environments is an asset.

Subsidiary of the VINCI Group, VINCI Construction Grands Projets Canada is involved in large-scale construction and civil engineering projects in Canada. The headquarter of VINCI Construction Grands Projets Canada is based in Montréal, Québec. We are currently involved in three major construction projects in Ontario valued at several billion Canadian dollars.

• The construction of the subway line south in Toronto, involving a six-kilometer tunnel and associated excavation work. The project includes the design, construction, and handover of all tunnels (twin tubes of 6 km each), 7 stations (turnkey for: 1 at-grade station and 6 underground stations) and civil engineering works.

• Extension of the Confederation Line in Ottawa, one of the components of Phase 2 of the city's O-Train system, which includes the design, construction, and financing of 27.5 km of light rail infrastructure. The work also includes 4 kilometers of cut-and-cover tunnels, 20 engineering structures, 16 stations and a light maintenance facility.

• The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program includes the design and construction of a new deep water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This project will include a 1.5 km long tunnel, excavated by a pressurized tunnel boring machine (10.15 m diameter slurry), two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore), and a modular offshore intake structure, resting on the lakebed. This project is notable for its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning, and coordination.
