What is the project?
The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This will involve:
- A5 km-long tunnel, built by a pressurized TBM (10.15 m diameter slurry TBM);
- Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore);
- An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed.
The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination.
What you will do:
The Superintendent will provide on-site coordination of all construction activities while ensuring the proper implementation of safety protocols. They will collaborate with stakeholders across the project to ensure key milestones are met and maintain accurate records of construction activities and costs.
Concretely, your tasks will be:
- Supervise subcontractor teamswithinthe area ofcontrol
- Ensure that HSE is always guaranteedbyenforcinga safe work environment,implementingandmonitoringsafety protocols, and conducting regular safety inspections to prevent accidents and mitigate risks
- Manage and coordinate all construction activities on theproject, ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, and applicable regulations
- Monitor the quality of work performed on-site to ensure adherence to industry standards, project requirements, and best practices
- Collaborate withProjectManagers,Engineers, and stakeholders to develop and implement construction schedules, work plans, and resource allocation to meet project milestones andobjectives
- Identifyand address any issues or obstacles that may arise during the construction process, employing effective problem-solving skills tomaintainprojectprogressand minimize delays
- Maintainaccuraterecords of construction activities, including daily reports, progress updates, and any changes or deviations from the original plans. Provide regular reports to project management and stakeholders
- Monitor project costs, including labor, materials, and equipment, andassistin managing the project budget, seeking cost-effective solutions without compromising quality and safety standards
- Review of constructiondocumentation (including the Safe Work Plan, JHA, Safety Plan)
- Coordination of activitiesrequiredfor site possession, including documentation and OPGs permits
Your skills:
- A degree or diploma in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field is preferred
- A proventrack recordof at least 5-10years in a civil construction supervisory rolein the GTA, preferably onOntario Power Generation sites
- Experiencewith earthworks,and utility relocation
- Strong knowledge of civil construction methods, codes, and regulations
- Excellent leadership and team management abilities, with the capacity to motivate and guide a diverse workforce
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to liaise with team members, stakeholders,and subcontractors
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address construction challenges and provide practical solutions
- In-depth knowledge of construction safety practices and regulations, with a commitment tomaintaininga safe work environment
- Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment
- Proficient in using construction management software, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office applications

Subsidiary of the VINCI Group, VINCI Construction Grands Projets Canada is involved in large-scale construction and civil engineering projects in Canada. The headquarter of VINCI Construction Grands Projets Canada is based in Montral, Qubec. We are currently involved in three major construction projects in Ontario valued at several billion Canadian dollars.
- The construction of the subway line south in Toronto, involving a six-kilometer tunnel and associated excavation work. The project includes the design, construction, and handover of all tunnels (twin tubes of 6 km each), 7 stations (turnkey for: 1 at-grade station and 6 underground stations) and civil engineering works.
- Extension of the Confederation Line in Ottawa, one of the components of Phase 2 of the city's O-Train system, which includes the design, construction, and financing of 27.5 km of light rail infrastructure. The work also includes 4 kilometers of cut-and-cover tunnels, 20 engineering structures, 16 stations and a light maintenance facility.
