Role Overview

Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Engineering Team Lead will provide leadership and coordination of Mechanical engineering functions and costing.

The incumbent will assist in the development and implementation of mechanical engineering policies and procedures, liaise directly with other department personnel to ensure project goals are met on budget, scope, and on schedule, while delivering the Eclipse Vision and the Eclipse Entrepreneurial Culture.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Recognize problems, initiate action, assist in problem solving and evaluate results on issues prior to releasing drawings to manufacturing
  • Assume full design responsibility for assigned projects, identifying and preventing scope creep
  • Actively participate and contribute to mechanical design activities
  • Works alongside PM's as technical expert for their department, providing support in customer communications and needs
  • Perform risk assessments and support the job hazard analysis process and actively participate in and support HSE programs and initiatives.
  • Mentors and train employees in technical skills to ensure execution on project requirements, working collaboratively with the Growth and Development Supervisors
  • Establishes team working environment to ensure on-the-job training for all levels of team members
  • Provides ongoing feedback to Supervisors on employee performance
  • Act as the Point-Of-Contact for the PM department for all assigned projects
  • Update project completion with respect to weekly confirmation of critical milestones, labour hours and percent complete on project
  • Ensure project schedule milestones are achieved
  • Expectation of travel up to 10% of the time could be anticipated, however this may be exceeded in exceptional circumstances to meet project needs

Qualifications :

  • Has successfully completed either a University Degree or College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering / Robotics Automation Technology or Tool and Die Maker Diploma.
  • Must have intermediate level experience with SolidWorks and be familiar with MS Office.
  • Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics and electrical controls and integration of equipment would be an asset.
  • 7 years’ experience in the custom automation industry
  • 4 years’ experience in a leadership role
  • Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects
