Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Product Manager with a strong mechanical and industrial design background to lead a team of six industrial designers.

The ideal candidate will possess a Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation and have over 10 years of experience in product development, with a focus on bringing innovative products from concept to market.

This role involves overseeing all aspects of product design, ensuring that our products align with customer needs, market trends, and business goals.

Strong leadership, technical expertise, and a customer-focused mindset are essential for success in this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Development :
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of six industrial designers, providing guidance on project execution and fostering a culture of creativity and innovation.
  • Ensure that the team’s output aligns with the company’s product vision and that all deadlines and project milestones are met.
  • Product Strategy & Roadmap :
  • Define and drive the product strategy and roadmap, working closely with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment with company objectives.
  • Prioritize product development efforts based on market research, customer feedback, and business goals.
  • Product Development :
  • Guide the industrial design team through the entire product development lifecycle, from initial concept and sketching to prototyping and final product refinement.
  • Collaborate with external manufacturers and suppliers to ensure that designs are technically feasible and production-ready, maintaining design integrity throughout the process.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration :
  • Act as the bridge between the design team, marketing, sales, and external manufacturing partners to ensure that product goals are clearly communicated and achieved.
  • Work with the marketing team to create compelling product narratives and support go-to-market strategies.
  • Project Management :
  • Oversee the planning and execution of multiple product development projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Engage with external manufacturing partners to ensure product feasibility and cost-effectiveness, while maintaining high design standards.
  • Customer Insights & Market Research :
  • Conduct in-depth market research and customer interviews to identify product opportunities and areas for improvement.
  • Translate customer feedback and market trends into actionable design improvements or new product features.
  • Creative & Technical Expertise :
  • Utilize your expertise in mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes to guide the team in creating innovative yet practical product designs.
  • Ensure that all products meet industry standards and are compliant with applicable regulations.

Qualifications

  • Education : Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field. P.Eng. designation required.
  • Experience :
  • 10+ years of experience in product management, product development, or industrial design, with a demonstrated track record of leading teams and launching successful products.
  • Experience working closely with manufacturers and suppliers to bring product designs into production.
  • Technical Skills :
  • Strong knowledge of industrial design processes, including 3D modeling, CAD software, and prototyping.
  • In-depth understanding of materials and manufacturing processes, with the ability to translate design concepts into production-ready specifications.
  • Project Management Skills :
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, delivering results on time and within budget.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with experience using project management software and methodologies.
  • Soft Skills :
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and guide a creative team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a customer-centric approach to product development.
