Position Overview

The Public Safety Department is seeking to hire a temporary full-time Crime Analyst to join the Police Support Services team for approximately two (2) years.
Responsibilities
In this position, you will perform complex and specialized statistical and analytical work to support criminal investigations and the development of crime reduction strategies.
- In this role, you will collect, evaluate, analyze and interpret a wide variety of investigative and intelligence data and information;
- monitor and identify crime patterns, trends and other factors; participate and provide analytical support in the development of projects and programs;
- prepare statistics, maps and graphic presentations; and, evaluate and validate intelligence information. In addition, you will perform telecommunications analysis and data mining research tasks to identify and monitor emerging and persistent crime trends and factors;
prepare reports and recommendations for implementing strategies; deliver presentations and briefings; and, liaise with a variety of contacts.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess a university degree in a related discipline, such as criminology, plus considerable knowledge of research, statistical and analytical practices, procedures, methods and techniques, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
The ideal candidate will also have sound knowledge of the criminal justice system and related experience, preferably in a policing environment.
Working knowledge of relevant software (I2, CAST, GIS, Microsoft Office) and superior communication skills are necessary.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain an RCMP security clearance as a condition of ongoing employment.
Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete standardized tests or exercises to demonstrate their applicable skills and knowledge.
Compensation
$46.07 to $54.44 per hour (Pay Grade 26 January 2024 rates)
Hours of Work
Any 8 consecutive hours exclusive of a one hour unpaid meal break between the hours of 6 : 00am 11 : 00pm, any five consecutive days of seven.
The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.
