The Broadway Subway Project Corporation (BSPC) is an Acciona-Ghella general partnership to deliver a 5.7 km extension of the Millennium Line, from VCC-Clark Station to Broadway and Arbutus.
Once complete, it will provide fast, frequent and convenient service to B.C.’s second largest jobs centre, world-class health services, an emerging innovation and research hub, and growing residential communities.
The CSO will work directly for Health and Safety Supervisors and with Site Superintendents, Site-Coordinators, relevant trades, client, contractors and sub-contractors.
Core responsibilities for the role include :
- Support the Health and Safety Department and the Construction Team on-site throughout construction.
- Regularly monitor health and safety compliance of workers, contractors, and sub-contractors.
- Conduct site-specific health, safety orientations for all new site workers and visitors.
- Assist with site safety plans, pre-job hazard assessments, incident investigations and risk assessments, as required.
- Ensure that all accidents, incidents, and injuries are properly reported to all appropriate parties.
- Facilitate and participate in site inspections, documentation and developing corrective action as required.
- Facilitate health, safety toolbox meetings.
- Maintain and prepare thorough documentation and reports including contractor proof of training / certification and contractor equipment maintenance.
- Keep the Health and Safety Supervisor updated on any issues or non-conformances that arise.
- Assist with developing first aid and emergency rescue plans.
- Participate in emergency response and mock-rescue drills.
- Administer First Aid and manage first aid documentation, as necessary.
- Regular participation in site planning and trade meetings.
- Additional tasks as required.
Qualifications
- At a minimum, 3 to 5-years of experience within a Construction Safety role.
- Current certificates Construction Safety Officer and Occupational First Aid Level 3 preferred. NCSO and OFA 2 with transport endorsement may be considered.
- Excellent communication, organization, time management skills, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations, policies, guidelines and standards.
- Proactive in identifying hazards and implementing corrective measures to ensure that health, safety and standards are being met on site.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to influence others, in matters of health, and safety.
- Must have effective verbal and written communicate skills and be proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook and other computer programs as may be necessary in the performance of CSO duties.
- Demonstrated ability to keep detailed and accurate health and safety records.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform other physically demanding duties.
- Has high level of personal and professional integrity.
- Experience with high-angle, excavation and confined space rescue is an asset.
