A Construction Safety Officer refers to workers who ensure that construction workers are following established policies and safety regulations.
Safety officers develop and implement policies to reduce the risk of accidents. They are also in charge of inspecting site conditions to determine if there is any potential hazard, in order to develop procedures and policies to overcome it.
They know how to manage emergency situations.
Construction Safety Officers are fully competent and experienced safety professionals who hold a certification that guarantees their qualification for the role.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Review subcontractor’s safety plans
- Verify that tools and equipment are adequate and safe for use
- Establish safety standards and policies
- Supervise the safety of all workers
- Respond to employees’ safety concerns
- Serves as the link between state and local agencies and contractors
- Receives reports issued by the Department of Labor inspectors
Requirements
- Knowledge of some basic hand tools
- Knowledge of math
- Must own PPE (hard hat, high visibility vest, steel toe boots); other PPE such as glasses, half-face or full-face mask, gloves will be preferred.
- Must be safety conscious.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
