Principal Underground Mining Engineer

Wood currently has a leadership opportunity for a Principal Underground Mining Engineering . Reporting to the Consulting Manager, this position is preferred to be located in Ontario (other locations in Canada or USA will be considered).

This role will provide mine engineering and planning services, project management, and support execution of underground mining projects globally.

Our Mining Consulting group business consists of more professionals delivering consulting and EPCM services for many of the world’s leading mining companies from our mining centers of excellence in Australia, Canada, Chile, Peru, South Africa, UK and USA.

• Provide engineering and planning services to Wood engineering studies and projects and clients as required.
• Serve as mining lead to manage projects (or parts of projects) to ensure that the work is completed on time, on budget, and in a manner consistent with Wood and client quality standards.
• Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure all components of projects are well integrated.
• Make site visits to gather information, meet with clients, and / or monitor performance of work.
• Provide cost estimating and project scheduling support.
• Develop & maintain communication channels with clients, and internal Wood personnel to ensure that work flows smoothly.
• Mentor and train junior Wood personnel so that they are prepared to take on additional roles and responsibilities.
• Perform peer review and senior review duties for work performed by others.
• Act as a qualified person (QP) for NI43-101 and S-K 1300 reports
• Develop and maintain client relationships.
• Identify business opportunities to provide increased support to clients.
• Assist with proposal preparation and client development.
• Mining Engineering from a recognized institution.
• Current professional registration or ability to be registered.
• 15 years experience in operations and engineering roles of increasing responsibility in the mining and consulting industry with focus on underground mining.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Project and engineering management experience
• Budgeting, cost estimation, and mine scheduling experience
• Familiar with mine planning software such as Deswik, Vulcan, Gemcom, Datamine, or PCBC, for underground projects.
• Familiar with mine scheduling software such as iGantt, EPS, or Deswik Sched.
• Second / multiple language skills considered an asset.
• Ability to travel both domestically and internationally
• Authorization to lawfully work in the United States or in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required
