Responsibilities :
- Initiative : Proactively stay abreast of directives from Toronto Public Health, leading the charge in revising and implementing prevention practices and protocols as necessitated by evolving circumstances.
- Interpersonal Skills : Serve as the linchpin between school personnel, families, and community healthcare providers, cultivating strong relationships to ensure a seamless and supportive environment for student health and well-being.
- Organization and Detail Orientation : Meticulously review and manage student medical information, overseeing the development and execution of individualized care plans, such as anaphylaxis and asthma management strategies, with precision and attention to detail.
- Technology & Spreadsheet Skills : Leverage your proficiency in technology and spreadsheet applications to streamline administrative tasks, track health-related data, and facilitate efficient communication among stakeholders.
- Provide prompt healthcare and first aid to students and staff, while overseeing medication administration with diligence and care.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of school professionals, teachers, coaches, the school Social Workers, and the Student Support Team, to optimize student health outcomes.
- Deliver health-related education sessions to students and staff, fostering a culture of informed decision-making and proactive health management.
- Monitor immunization records, managing communicable diseases, and implementing robust infection control measures to uphold a safe and healthy school environment.
- Coordinate first aid training sessions for staff members, ensuring readiness to respond effectively to health emergencies.
Qualifications (RN or RPN) :
We are seeking candidates who not only meet the standard qualifications but also demonstrate a heightened commitment to excellence in their field.
Key qualifications include :
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- Current Certification as an RN or RPN in Ontario.
- Minimum of 1 year of supervised nursing experience, with preference given to those with experience in a school or camp setting.
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification.
- Experience or familiarity with concussion management is considered advantageous.
- Mental Health First Aid certification is an asset.
Knowledge and Skills :
- Demonstrated ability to engage with students, families, and other stakeholders with empathy, respect, and confidentiality.
- A well-defined sense of confidentiality and diplomacy, coupled with a commitment to upholding ethical standards.
- Exceptional resourcefulness, adaptability, and flexibility in navigating diverse healthcare scenarios.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, essential for clear and concise interaction with diverse audiences.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities, enabling astute judgement and sound decision-making in complex healthcare situations.
