Position Description
Nurse Practitioner - Orthopaedic Surgery
Choosing to work for The Hospital for Sick Children means that you’ve chosen more than a job, you’ve chosen a career where you can have a meaningful impact on the lives of children and families every day. Our staff are our greatest strength, and SickKids works hard to provide a supportive working environment where Nurse Practitioners can perform their best work possible. Working in collaboration with the interdisciplinary Health Care team, Nurse Practitioners at SickKids have the opportunity to provide expertise in the areas of :
- Clinical Practice
- Education, Mentorship, and Research
- Leadership and Organizational & Systems Management
SickKids is recognized as one of the world's foremost paediatric health-care institutions and is Canada's leading centre dedicated to advancing children's health. Nurse Practitioners play a critical role in our success.
We are currently looking for a Nurse Practitioner to join our Orthopaedic Surgery Team to provide leadership and promote inter-professional excellence and collaboration in child and family-centred care within the five main role components of expert practice, education, consultation, research, and leadership / change agency in a dynamic clinical environment.
This role would focus on leading care of patients across our orthopaedic service (spine, complex hip, fractures), within an established Ortho NP team. This role will work closely with unit nurses, orthopaedic staff surgeons, residents, fellows, other NPs, consulting medical services, and allied health personnel to ensure safe, efficient, and family-centered perioperative care. The NP will optimize the care delivered by the team through the ability to assess, intervene, and reassess pre-operative and post-operative patient status and proactively manage preparation for and recovery from surgery. The NP will develop key relationships with patients and families, the complex care service, other NPs, and Holland Bloorview Kids rehabilitation hospital. Using an enhanced recovery after surgery lens, the NP will undertake a continuous quality improvement approach to the prevention and management of perioperative medical conditions. Success will be judged on patient safety, comfort, family experience, length of stay, and strength of liaison with other services.
