Employment Status Full Time Employment Type Regular Job Summary Under the direction of the Manager, Institutional Research, the Jr.
Data Architect will play a key role in maintaining, improving and shaping the database landscape, providing support for database versioning and documentation, preparing Ministry-mandated reports, and generating standard and regularized internal reports and communications.
This role will collaborate with various departments to ensure data integrity, database performance, and alignment with institutional goals, and contribute to the development of data strategies and architectures.
Specific Duties
- Perform routine database maintenance tasks, such as data backup, optimization, and troubleshooting, to ensure data integrity and reliability.
- Monitor database performance and recommend enhancements to ensure optimal functioning, efficiency, and scalability.
- Assist in the development and implementation of data architecture strategies and plans, in line with the institution's objectives and compliance requirements.
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely reports as mandated by the Ministry, ensuring compliance with reporting guidelines, regulations, and deadlines.
- Develop and generate standard and regularized internal reports for various departments and stakeholders, using data visualization tools and techniques to convey insights and trends effectively.
- Collaborate with relevant departments to gather, validate, and analyze required data, while maintaining data confidentiality and security.
- Collaborate with other team members to implement database improvements and upgrades as needed while ensuring alignment with institutional objectives and data security standards.
- Maintain and update database documentation, including data dictionaries, data models, and entity-relationship diagrams, ensuring accuracy and consistency across systems.
- Operate the day-to-day processes of the database versioning system, ensuring that changes are properly tracked according to established guidelines, and managing data migration and integration activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and maintain data standards, guidelines, and naming conventions, fostering a culture of data governance and consistency.
- Proactively identify and address potential reporting issues and discrepancies, ensuring accurate and reliable data for decision-making.
- Collaborate with colleagues to identify reporting needs and requirements, and create custom reports as needed to support data-informed decision-making.
- Communicate data insights and findings to stakeholders in a clear, concise, and accessible manner, ensuring that complex data is presented in an understandable format.
- Participate in relevant meetings, workshops, and training sessions to stay up-to-date with industry best practices, trends, and technologies in database management and reporting.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of data governance policies and procedures within the college.

Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) specializing in computer science, data science, information systems, or a related field
- Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) is a plus
- 3 years or more experience in database management, data analysis, and reporting
- Proficiency in SQL and database management tools, such as Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, or Transact-SQL
- Strong knowledge of data modeling, documentation, and versioning best practices
- Experience with data visualization tools, such as Cognos, Crystal Reports, Tableau, QlikView or similar programs
- Familiarity with statistical analysis techniques
- Experience with Ministry-mandated reporting and compliance an asset
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Detailed orientated approach to work
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
