Unit Summary
The West Regional Base Hospital serves the communities of Brant, Dufferin, Haldimand, Hamilton, Niagara, Norfolk, Six Nations, Waterloo and Wellington.
Overall, the Base Hospital provides medical oversight, certification, continuous quality improvement and education to over 1,800 Paramedics.
In addition, the Base Hospital works towards advancing research in the field of pre-hospital emergency care.
Position Summary
The Paramedic Educator is responsible for the development and implementation of course curriculum for all paramedics within the Regional Base Hospital Program.
The Paramedic Educator oversees the delivery of the Annual Practice Review and other CME and provincially mandated programs, training to new paramedic employees of the EMS operators, and training for employees returning to clinical practice or require remedial training.
In addition, the Paramedic Educator will liaise with various stakeholders (ie. Service Operators, Medical Council, Ministry of Health, other provincial bodies, paramedics, etc.) as required

Qualifications
1. Bachelor Degree from a recognized university in a healthcare or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
2. Graduate of an Advanced Care Paramedic program or Primary Care Paramedic program recognized by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (or equivalent if from out of province)
3. Diploma / certificate in Adult Education from a recognized institution (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
4. Demonstrated experience in adult education teaching principles, development, implementation and evaluation of education programs, preferably in the prehospital care setting
5. Minimum of 5 years of recent experience as an Educator / Instructor related to the prehospital emergency care environment
6. Demonstrated knowledge of associated Regulations and Standards related to prehospital emergency care
7. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and required software (i.e. Microsoft Office)
8. Excellent interpersonal and communication (strong written and verbal) skills, including presentation skills.
9. Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills
10. Demonstrated ability to work independently, organize workload and establish priorities
11. Demonstrated proficiency in the mentoring and development of staff and the ability to employ a variety of learning resources and teaching styles
12. Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
13. Demonstrated evidence of continuous learning in healthcare or related field
14. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with reflective practice principles
15. Demonstrated ability to lead / facilitate project coordination / organization with a focus on Education and Quality improvements
16. Current certification as an ACLS and PALS instructor an asset, but not required
