PROVINCIAL HEALTH SERVICES AUTHORITY

Vancouver, BC

The Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) plans, manages and evaluates specialized health services with the BC health authorities to provide equitable and cost-effective health care for people throughout the province.

Our values reflect our commitment to excellence and include : Compassion Respect Equity Courage Innovation.

One of the largest academic heath science organizations in Canada, PHSA and its programs lead research that improves health outcomes and strengthens the sustainability of BC’s health care system.

Its work is guided by its purpose to inspire and unite specialized teams to create a healthier province for all, as well as its vision to boldly create an equitable, anti-racist, and culturally safe health care system where everyone thrives.

PHSA lives by its values and is guided by the Coast Salish Teachings gifted to the organization by Coast Salish Knowledge Keeper Sulksun (Shane Pointe).

Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Provincial Clinical Policy, Planning, & Partnerships (EVP), the Chief Administrative Officer Research (CAO Research) role is an exceptional opportunity to lead one of Canada’s largest academic health sciences organizations.

Responsible for defining and monitoring research and student education performance indicators, and for working in collaboration with academic health science parties, the CAO Research will provide strategic leadership for PHSA’s mandate as an academic health science organization.

They will lead activities to strengthen, standardize, and align research and student education platforms, processes, and policies, and they will build formal, productive relationships with researchers, health authorities, universities, other post-secondary institutions, government, and philanthropic partners to establish and sustain a supportive, outcomes-oriented research environment and high quality learning environment that improves health outcomes and strengthens the sustainability of BC’s health care system.

The ideal candidate is a future-thinking change agent with a demonstrated track record of understanding strategic connections to leverage research opportunities at a system-level that can then be translated into better patient and client care outcomes.

A big picture thinker, they can communicate a clear vision, strategy, and roadmap and distill that strategic vision into practical applications while supporting a team to fulfill that vision.

Naturally humble and a collaborative relationship builder, the CAO Research is a thought leader who possesses a history of developing successful science and research partnerships within broad transformational science contexts.

A confident communicator and spokesperson, the ideal candidate builds strong coalitions and leverages external opportunities to achieve common goals and to support PHSA’s provincial mandate through understanding political, relational, and regulatory contexts, and works collaboratively with key internal and external partners.

The CAO Research negotiates and coordinates action plans with conflicting requirements and ensures that the strategic goals, objectives, and operational plans for the portfolio are carried out in an effective and efficient manner.

The CAO Research will wholeheartedly partner with others in the organization to ensure Indigenous-specific anti-racism, Indigenous Cultural Safety, and DEI strategic priorities are being actioned, and holds a steadfast commitment to diversity and creating a just system where Indigenous and other voices that have been systemically excluded are platformed and supported to lead change.

PHSA is committed to equity in its hiring and employment practices. With learning and compassion, it is addressing existing inequities and barriers throughout its systems.

PHSA is seeking to create a diverse workforce and to establish an inclusive and culturally safe environment. It invites applications and enquiries from all people, particularly those belonging to the historically, systemically, and persistently marginalized groups identified under the B.C. Human Rights Code.

The expected salary range for this position is $223,218 $281,960. The starting salary for this position will be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience and will be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan.

It will also be supplemented by a competitive benefits package.
