Position Summary

Applications are invited for a tenure-track faculty position in the Lab Instructor category. The expected start date is September 1st, 2024.

Situated in beautiful Wascana Park, one of the largest urban parks in North America, the University of Regina is a comprehensive institution, emphasizing excellence in teaching and research, as well as public service.

Experiential learning and cross-disciplinary teaching are strongly supported.

The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science presently offers five programs in Electronic, Environmental, Industrial, Petroleum and Software Systems Engineering that are accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board.

A new Energy Systems Engineering program started in Fall 2023. We also offer M. Eng., M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. programs, as well as interdisciplinary graduate programs.

The Faculty offers unique Co-operative Education and Internship programs and has approximately 650 undergraduate and 350 graduate students (about 140 graduate students are in Ph.

D. programs). The Faculty has a strong commitment to providing an excellent systems approach to engineering education. Each program has a unique implementation of the systems theme, founded on the common underlying goal of producing engineering graduates with a strong base of technical knowledge and with the breadth of complementary skills that successful professional engineers should have in the workplace.

The Faculty enjoys close collaborative relationships with industry and government research laboratories. These include the Sylvia Fedoruk Canadian Centre for Nuclear Innovation, SaskPower, the Saskatchewan Research Council, the University’s Energy Transition Hub, Clean Energy Technologies Research Institute (CETRI) and the Institute for Energy, Environment and Sustainable Communities (IEESC).

More information on the Faculty can be found on our website at : . Position Requirements Applicants will have one of the following :

  • B.A.Sc. or equivalent in Electronic Systems Engineering or a closely related area. The candidate will also have the appropriate credentials for registration as a Professional Engineer in Saskatchewan, or
  • Diploma of Applied Science / Technology in Electronic Systems Engineering or a closely related area.

The candidate will also have the appropriate credentials for registration as an Applied Science Technologist in Saskatchewan.

Applied Science Technologists are expected to work toward registration with APEGS as an Engineering Licensee during the course of their employment.-

The successful candidate must have the ability and enthusiasm to develop, revise, and conduct undergraduate lab courses in one or more of the areas of program specialization (Communications, Micro-Electronics, Control Systems, Power) as well as in core electronic systems topics.

In addition to lab courses in core electronic systems topics (ENEL 280 / ENEL 281 / ENEL 282 / ENEL 383 / ENEL 384), the successful candidate will be required to conduct two of three lab courses in the Communications (ENEL 341 / ENEL 442) and Micro-Electronics (ENEL 351) areas within one year of their appointment and to conduct all three lab courses listed within two years of their appointment.

The successful candidate will need to become familiar with Very High-Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language (VHDL), Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), and System-on-chip (SoC) devices.

The successful candidate will be familiar with the function and operation of a wide range of electronic test equipment and will have demonstrated experience in designing, prototyping, and troubleshooting electronic circuits.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team environment. The successful candidate will be required to show a strong commitment to teaching and developing lab courses as well as Faculty and university service during their appointment.

Preference will be given to individuals with industrial experience in Communications and / or Micro-Electronics and those with previous teaching experience.
