OVERVIEW

Reporting directly to the Research Business Manager and indirectly to the Manager, Financial Planning and Reporting, the Sr.

Financial Analyst will be an integral part of the successful development and implementation of research finance infrastructure within the Department of Research & Innovation.

The successful candidate will be at the forefront of and heavily involved in many start-up activities in the expansion of Research Operations, including development of policies and procedures, evaluating and implementing systems and will work with many levels of management and cross-functional teams.

The incumbent will lead financial analysis and support financial modelling. This role is critical in ensuring accuracy, timeliness, relevance, and data quality in Research internal and external financial, operational, business planning and statistical reporting.

The Sr. Financial Analyst possesses knowledge of accounting standards, financial statement reporting and internal control framework.

The Sr. Financial Analyst will work closely with the Financial Services and Research & Innovation teams to perform monthly and quarterly variance analysis to identify significant variances, and to obtain variance explanations, problem solve and initiate any corrective action to the source.

The incumbent will require strong technical and organizational skills, an ability to understand and achieve business goals, work collaboratively with Research leadership on administration of departmental and research accounts, and an ability to work and communicate with internal and external collaborators in a professional manner.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in business or in a healthcare related field.
  • Completion of a Canadian recognized accounting designation (CPA). Must be active and in good standing.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of five (5) years of related experience working in complex and large organizations in a similar role.
  • Experience with data management, maintaining, analyzing, and monitoring departmental financial records.
  • Experience with healthcare revenue cycle management and research grant / contract administration.
  • Expertise in financial planning, budgeting and analysis.
  • Expertise in financial reporting and control management.
  • Knowledge of SAP financial reporting, Cognos BI reporting, and Questica budgeting systems is preferred.
  • Experience with research grant financial administration and reporting is preferred.
  • Strong MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, working and communicating effectively with investigators, research personnel and staff.
  • Good judgment and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
  • Exhibits attitude for continuous improvement and a standard of excellence in customer service.
  • Must be self-motivated, proactive, and have demonstrated excellence in organizing and prioritizing workload in a fast paced and high-volume environment.
  • Strong analytical skills, knowledge and skill in applying analytical and evaluative techniques to the identification and resolution of grant administration issues.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, proven leadership skills and exhibit a high level of professionalism.
  • Good work and attendance record required.
