Management approved equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Reporting to the Director of Economic Development, the Economic Development Officer position plays a key role in shaping and executing strategies that drive workforce development and business growth in Medicine Hat and Southeastern Alberta. In this role, you will spearhead impactful initiatives related to workforce, investment attraction, and strategic projects supporting key industries. Success in this position requires strategic thinking, strong written and oral communication skills, a people-first approach and a strong ability to build meaningful, trust-based relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Your key responsibilities
- Develop and implement long-term economic development strategies.
- Assess economic data, market trends, budgets and financial reports to make informed decisions.
- Collaborate with employers, educational institutions, workforce, and immigration agencies to collectively develop employee, newcomer and immigrant attraction, settlement, and integration programs to meet the needs of local industries.
- Craft and execute effective marketing campaigns to attract investment and talent.
- Identify funding opportunities and writing grant proposals to secure financial and / or partnership support for economic development projects and initiatives
