Qualifications
- High School diploma plus a minimum of two years of related experience (equivalencies will be considered on the basis of 1 year of experience for 1 year of education or 1 year of education for 1 year of experience)
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level-C Certification including automated external defibrillator (AED)
- Current Certified Criminal Records Check (with fingerprinting) issued within the last six months
- Experience in conflict management and de-escalation techniques
- Candidates must at least 18 years of age
- Candidates must be physically cabable of performing the duties and responsibilities of the position
- Candidates must possess a minimum of a valid unrestricted Class 5 Canadian Driver’s License (note : Probationary Class 5 - Graduated Driver's License (GDL) or Learners are not accepted)
- For positions in Young Offenders Centres, a Vulnerable Sector Check is also required (issued within the last six months)

Previous experience as a Correctional Peace Officer or Correctional Service WorkerPrevious experience as a police officer or auxiliary police memberPrevious experience in client group work (e.g. group homes, aboriginal camps)Previous experience working with adults with mental health or behavioural issuesPrevious experience in security, where the role regularly requires direct contact with the public (e.g. mall security, hospital security, airport screening officer, loss prevention officer, commissionaire, armed guard, etc.)Previous experience in bylaw enforcementPrevious military service with focus on protection or securityPrevious experience in emergency response (e.g. EMT; firefighter)Previous experience working with youth in areas such as : Working under the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act, working with youth in an education setting, Providing services to youth with disabilities, Youth mentorship, Youth counselling service, and / or working in a youth group homeTo perform the full scope of the role, the position requires employees to don Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and to be clean-shaven where the face piece of the equipment seals to the skin of the face. This is in accordance with the Effective Face Seal, Occupational Health and Safety Code, section 250(2). Exceptions due to medical and religious grounds may be accommodated.

This competition will be used to create an eligibility list of qualified candidates to fill upcoming opportunities. Candidates who are successful in the selection process will be placed in a Talent Pool.All successful candidates are hired at the CPO 1 classification. You may be eligible for reclassification to the CPO2 level after you have successfully completed a multi-week staff induction training program, your probatinary period, 24 months as a CPO.The number of positions to be filled has not been identified at this time as vacancies in various locations will vary.Vacancies may be Permanent or Wage. Permanent positions are generally offered only on a full-time basis, with candidates required to be available for a variety of shifts : days, afternoons, nights, including weekends and holidays.Wage positions are offered on a casual / on-call basis with no guarantee of hours. Successful candidates may at times receive shifts on short notice. A successful candidate could be working full-time hours or have no shifts depending on the week. Shifts vary based on the Centre’s needs.As part of the recruitment process, successful candidates will be required to attend multiple interviews, complete a physical assessment, and complete an orientation session held over several days at the Centre where they will be potentially employed.Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening.Final candidates will be required to submit a 5-year Commercial Driver's Abstract issue by the appropriate provincial or territorial licensing authority.Any costs associated with obtaining the required documents / checks and any costs related to interview travel will be the responsibility of the candidate.
