Reporting to the Director of Economic Development, the Economic Development Officer position plays a key role in shaping and executing strategies that drive workforce development and business growth in Medicine Hat and Southeastern Alberta. In this role, you will spearhead impactful initiatives related to workforce, investment attraction, and strategic projects supporting key industries. Success in this position requires strategic thinking, strong written and oral communication skills, a people-first approach and a strong ability to build meaningful, trust-based relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Your key responsibilities
- Develop and implement long-term economic development strategies.
- Assess economic data, market trends, budgets and financial reports to make informed decisions.
- Collaborate with employers, educational institutions, workforce, and immigration agencies to collectively develop employee, newcomer and immigrant attraction, settlement, and integration programs to meet the needs of local industries.
- Craft and execute effective marketing campaigns to attract investment and talent.
- Identify funding opportunities and writing grant proposals to secure financial and / or partnership support for economic development projects and initiatives

Knowledge of local, regional, and global economic policies and their impact on business and workforce development.You are known for building and maintaining cooperative and productive relationships with stakeholders.You are relatable and enjoy contributing to a positive work environment.You have experience in the implementation of workforce development and business retention and expansion strategies, processes, and initiatives.You are a strategic and creative critical thinker who implements new approaches and process improvements.You can recognize opportunities, prioritize effort, plan approaches, generate solutions and achieve results.You have experience in project management through the life cycle phases : initiation, planning, execution, and closure.You have demonstrated professional judgement, tact, diplomacy, and integrity.You have excellent oral and written communication skills.Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to support events. Additionally, the role may require occasional travel for events as needed.Qualifications
Successful completion of a degree in business management, marketing, economics or related field from a recognized post secondary institution.You have five years of experience in economic development or related roles.Successful completion of the Certified Economic Developer, Ec.D or CEcD designation, or completion of another recognized economic development certification program would be considered and asset.Management approved equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Why join us?
