Job description

Your Opportunity:

The Unit Clerk functions as a receptionist and clerk for the Royal Alexandra Hospital Emergency Department. It is a dynamic, fast paced position that requires strong time management and communication skills. This position is a coordinator and a central source of information and record keeping relating to the activities, communication and service for patients, their families, and staff. The Unit Clerk acts as a liaison between members of the inter-disciplinary team as well as other hospital and non-hospital staff. Duties of a Unit Clerk include, but are not limited to, answering and directing phone calls in a courteous manner; facilitating communication between the Emergency department and others hospital units and community providers; booking service requests; overseeing unit transport; overseeing lab specimen quality control; reconciling medical records within Connect Care, and overseeing referrals.

Description:

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program. Experience as a unit clerk within a tertiary care center within the past year. Demonstrated respectful communication skills. Demonstrated interpersonal collaboration skills. Demonstrated strong time management and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficient in computer skills, Connect Care trained, IRequest, etc.
