Job description

Junior Planner (Full Time)

Location : Richmond Hill, Ontario

Overview :

Groundswell Urban Planners is seeking a Junior Planner to contribute to a variety of projects throughout the Region of York and the Greater Toronto Area. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate seeking experience in the planning profession.  We offer a chance to work on a variety of projects and a comfortable work atmosphere and offer a competitive salary. This is a hybrid position with some flexibility regarding work location throughout the week.  We will work with the successful candidate to provide a range of experience that will assist with advancing their membership with OPPI / CIP.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Manage planning applications, including Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendments, Site Plans, and Committee of Adjustment hearings.
  • Prepare planning summaries, memos, and reports for clients.
  • Conduct background research and analysis to assist with due diligence assignments.
  • Support staff in project management tasks.
  • Manage project documentation, including minutes, agendas, and schedules.
  • Attend and participate in project and public meetings.
  • Prepare planning rationales and professional correspondence.
  • Make deputations to clients, councils, and committees.
  • Interpret and provide recommendations on relevant municipal by-laws and policies.
  • Conduct land use policy research for development reviews.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Assist with Ontario Land Tribunal hearings and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other Planners and Technicians.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Qualifications :

  • General knowledge of planning principles and best practices
  • Working knowledge of Provincial Planning Policies
  • Familiarity with municipal documents
  • Effective organizational and time management skills
  • Strong analytical, research, reasoning, technical, and problem solving skills
  • Solid grammar and spelling abilities
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in written form
  • Proficiency using Google Suite and Apple products
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Valid Class "G" Driver's License and access to a vehicle on a daily basis
  • Eligible for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI)
  • Nice To Have

  • Knowledge of GIS systems
  • Experience in Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator, Revit, or SketchUp
  • Previous experience in policy planning, land development and urban design
  • Required Education :

  • Bachelors Degree in Land Use Planning, or similar
  • Benefits :
