Job descriptionWork in compliance with OH&S Act and the Salvation Army’s health and safety policies. Ensure all staff are aware of emergency procedures and can implement them immediately. Follow proper procedures during workplace injuries or illnesses and conduct incident investigations as required. Moderate material responsibilities. Handle minor financial matters and use resources wisely. May be authorized to handle small amounts of cash. Permanent full‑time position. Work environment is a retail store. Flexibility in work schedule required; varies week to week and spans weekdays and / or Saturdays. Stand for long periods; frequent twisting, bending, crouching and reaching. Lift / move up to 29 pounds regularly. Travel required to attend meetings. Willingness to support and understand the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada. Post‑secondary program or specialized courses in Retail Management or equivalent preferred. Two (2) years of related retail store experience, specifically in second‑hand merchandise preferred. Basic accounting experience required. Cash handling experience required. Experience with cash registers, bank deposits and summary reports. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience with Salvation Army systems / programs an asset. Team‑oriented and able to resolve conflicts. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral). Results‑driven with strong time‑management and delegation skills. Administrative task proficiency. Respectful, compassionate, non‑judgmental approach. Familiarity with cash handling, pricing, sorting and product display guidelines.

Job Title – Assistant Store Manager
Job Description
This position provides support to the Store Manager / Corps Officer in supervising all operational areas of the retail store. The role ensures the mission of The Salvation Army is advanced through a thriving thrift store that generates funds and positively influences the communities we serve.
Accountabilities
- Ensure the safety of all customers, staff and volunteers while in the store.
- Assist in planning store layouts and maintaining an attractive environment.
- Handle customer concerns or complaints in a timely and courteous manner.
- Support the Store Manager / Corps Officer in cash operations, ensuring compliance with Salvation Army policy and secure nightly deposits.
- Oversee inventory control, including retrieval, sorting and pricing of donations.
- Provide direction and support to staff in the absence of the Store Manager.
- Participate in interviews and hiring.
- Provide orientation and training; give performance feedback in compliance with divisional and territorial standards.
- Assist in planning store sales, promotions and auctions.
- Plan staff schedules, meetings and training sessions.
- Sort, price and stock various goods.

Reports directly to the Store Manager. No direct reports. Supervises staff members and volunteers in the absence of the Store Manager / Corps Officer.

Compensation
Salary range : $20.75 to $25.94 per hour with a maximum of $31.13. Placement within the range considers market conditions, internal equity and candidate experience, skills and qualifications.
