Job Summary.
The Nurse Supervisor plays a fundamental role in maintaining and enhancing the quality of care for our children who live at Hope’s Home. Through collaboration and teamwork, they ensure each child receives exceptional care and support that allows each child to grow to their full potential. They are responsible for maintaining and upholding all standards for nursing practice and advocating for the needs of each child. They collaborate closely with staff, the child’s healthcare team, and others to ensure each child is receiving the necessary supports to live a full life. There are two Nurse Supervisors in the Supportive Living home and both report to the Manager of Supportive Living.
Responsibilities.
Operational Duties.
- Collaborate with Senior Manager of Supportive Living and other members of the leadership team for admissions, transfers, and discharges of children.
- Collaborate with each child’s healthcare team and others to address the needs of the child (e.g., pediatrician, specialists, dieticians, teachers, CNIB, Saskatchewan Health Authority)
- Develop and maintain care plans in collaboration with staff and / or external professionals.
- Ensure care plans are complete, current, and being followed appropriately.
- Maintain and monitor appointment logs.
- Arrange staffing to accompany child to the hospital and report to Ministry of Social Services Worker and the Senior Manager of Supportive Living.
- Intervene and advocate with outside professionals and organizations for the required health care needs of Hope’s Home children.
- Facilitate quarterly meetings with the Social Workers.
- Communicate and collaborate with each child’s Social Services Worker regarding child’s progress, health needs and wellbeing (e.g., school progress reports, required equipment, work being done with child’s healthcare team, etc.)
- Report and communicate to each child’s Social Worker, minor and major occurrences, and quarterly reports.
- Monitor the need for and the implementation of program activities as developed by the Recreational Programmers and manage programming on the floor.
- Complete reports for medication errors, unusual occurrences, and minor injuries and provide to Ministry of Social Services Worker and the Senior Manager of Supportive Living.
- Oversee the maintenance and update of equipment used by each child.
- Monitor to ensure emergency equipment is regularly maintained and replaced as required.
- Monitor to ensure portable emergency equipment and outing bags are complete with all up to date and working equipment as required.
- Develop and keep current all medical emergency protocols and communicate to staff.
- Participate in financial budget preparation duties.
- Fill shifts and operate within the established budget.
- Act as the primary contact for general inquires, sick calls, and emergency calls.
- Remain on-call for all scheduled days to assist staff with questions and / or work in place of floor staff if unable to fill vacant shifts (Flex Time is permitted if hours worked is over 160 in a 4-week period).
- Act as the back up to any position within the center when necessary to maintain operations and ensure proper ratios. (e.g., act as a floor Nurse, Developmental Worker, Recreation Programmer, Administrative Assistant).
- Collaborate with the SL Manager to complete the long-term scheduling of all staff.
- Acts as scheduler and fills shifts when staff call in sick.
- Oversee quality control for policy and procedure, checklists, and emergency protocols.
Communicate and build rapport with external stakeholders such as : Ministry of Social Services.
