Laurentian Bank runs operations across Canada – primarily in Québec and Ontario – as well as in the United States and competes where it sees market opportunity and has an edge, while harnessing the power of partnerships and collaboration.

This role sits within Laurentian Bank.

Responsibilities

  • Assess risk and develop and implement remediation strategies for the files under management.
  • Diagnose complex problematic situations and intervene to implement the necessary corrective measures to reduce risk for the Bank.
  • Analyze financial and legal documentation and ensure it aligns with established strategies, complies with existing authorizations, and that collateral is valid and enforceable.
  • Authorize and/or obtain authorization, within delegated authority limits, for strategies and remediation plans, irregularities, annual reviews, and required amendments.
  • Submit recommendations to higher authorization levels for files that exceed delegated authority.
  • Monitor files under management to maintain their quality.
  • Ensure proper monitoring of operating credits and other forms of financing, and oversee the daily operations of these accounts.
  • Engage external professionals as required (e.g., lawyers, consultants, trustees, brokers).
  • Maintain effective communications and negotiate agreement terms with various stakeholders.
  • Occasionally guide clients to refinance with another financial institution in order to repay the Bank.
  • Direct, when appropriate, the orderly liquidation of client assets.
  • Perform duties in compliance with applicable legislation and the Bank’s policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Prepare and submit, when required, claims to organizations that provided guarantees or loan insurance.
  • Authorize and/or obtain authorization, within delegated authority limits, for appropriate levels of provisions and write-offs when required.
  • Inform management and other stakeholders of the progress and evolution of files.
  • Ensure the production of reports and statistics for the unit; review reports related to managed accounts to ensure accuracy and provide instructions for corrections when necessary.
  • Formulate recommendations to improve work processes and operational efficiency.
  • Act as an expert advisor to senior management on decisions requiring restructuring expertise, and support Commercial Banking Centers as needed.
  • Manage major projects and mandates that may significantly impact profitability and efficiency.
  • Maintain periodic contacts with senior levels of the Bank and optimize communications with clients and internal and external stakeholders involved in unit activities.
  • Stay informed of market trends and legislative changes to support the evolution of practices and make recommendations to senior management when necessary.
  • Perform any other related or general duties as requested by a superior or required within the scope of the role.

Qualifications

  • University education in an appropriate field and six to 10 years of experience.
