Dumas requires an experienced Mining Estimator who will be responsible for the development of detailed multi-disciplinary cost estimates, schedules and project methodologies for contracts for underground mining projects.
Responsibilities :
Prepare and develop comprehensive cost estimates from first principles and corresponding proposals for tender opportunities and / or engineering studies.
Lead the proposal development process to support Dumas’ international business platform in the Americas. Includes the review of drawings, designs, specifications and commercial & contractual documentation for all business opportunities.
Prioritize & plan tender process to ensure bid is submitted on time.
Work effectively and collaboratively with other individuals in the organization to obtain, review and support the commitments necessary for project success at the tendering phase.
Provide continual improvement recommendations to cost estimating and project management procedures to refine and reduce discrepancies between actual and estimated project costs.
Be able and prepared to travel for site visits, work in branch or joint venture partner offices.
Attend site visits and collect the required information in order to carry out estimates.
Interact with the Engineering Department and external suppliers to obtain material / equipment prices and analyze comparative pricing.
Based on experience & knowledge, after analyzing bid scope, identify work that can be done concurrently to maximize utilization of resources.
Work closely with Management to ensure bids prepared are competitive and provide required rate of return for the Company.
Constantly keeping abreast of market value of manpower and equipment resources.
Constantly monitoring equipment & material costs.
Ensure smooth transition from tender to execution by supporting the Operations team in the start-up phases of awarded work.
Competencies, Skills & Knowledge :
Specific experience in Underground Mining environments, preferably in labour and / or supervisory roles with a minimum of five (5) years in the mining industry
Must be legally able to work in Canada.
A solid, hands-on understanding of the complexities of underground mine development from feasibility studies, construction to project commissioning and completion will help ensure you can meet the needs of all stakeholders but most importantly our clients.
Have highly advanced analytical skills, delivering technical insight and operational recommendations beyond just developing cost estimates.
Estimating and scheduling software skills need to be well developed. Demonstrated ability to develop a high level of proficiency with Estimating Software (Hard Dollar). Preferred skills include proficiency with scheduling and project management software such as Primavera P6 / MS Project, Power BI, etc.
You are a step ahead if you can communicate fluently in Spanish and / or French. More importantly, you are a team player who can communicate well in a cross functional team environment.
You must be able to work in a position of trust, in a highly confidential area of the business.
You are comfortable with meeting strict deadlines and working under pressure.
Previous underground project experience, especially related to shaft, development, raising and construction projects.
Design of excavation sequences for underground mines considered an asset.
An engineering or technical school graduate, preferably with an emphasis in the mining industry. Having your . license or equivalent technical qualifications would accelerate your effectiveness and impact.
Title and seniority designation will be adjusted commensurate to candidate experience and demonstrable skills.
Valid passport is required for international assignments.
Valid drivers license.
