About the Opportunity

The Clinical Therapist is a member of the Urgent Care/Crisis Response Service (short-term follow-up services), Mental Health and Addictions. Reporting to the Manager of Mental Health and Addictions, the Clinical Therapist provides advanced crisis assessment, intervention, brief follow-up, and care planning for urgent care clients across the lifespan, with the goal of stabilization and connection to necessary mental and addictions services as required. Clients may be seen in local emergency department for crisis assessment and transitioned from the emergency department to local urgent care team to determine stability and next steps along the continuum of supports and services both internally and externally to Nova Scotia Health.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Master’s degree in a clinical health-related discipline - Master’s in Social Work, Psychology, Master’s in Counseling, Master’s in Nursing, Master’s in Occupational Therapy
  • Current registration with relevant provincial regulatory body
  • Two years licensed related clinical experience required (including assessment and planning, treatment and intervention and discharge planning)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of standard criteria used (DSM-5) for the classification and diagnosis of mental health disorders
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in providing individual and group evidence informed therapies based on care plan to clients with mental illness, substance use disorders, and/or concurrent disorders
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in collaborating with families in relation to sharing information and implementing family-sensitive services that involve families in the care and recovery of people living mental illness and addiction
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in crisis intervention, suicide, and violence risk assessment/intervention
  • Non-violent crisis intervention and suicide risk assessment preferred
  • Demonstrated awareness of community resources and programs
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational and prioritization skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • High level of written/oral/interpersonal communication skills; experience with conflict resolution
  • Ability to work effectively in multiple software applications required
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently with limited supervision and participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Two (2) years licensed related clinical experience (including assessment and planning, treatment and intervention and discharge planning) is required. If not available, candidates with less than two (2) years’ of licensed experience may be considered for the selection process. If offered employment, they will be placed on the Clinical Therapist (Dev) HTH2130 scale.

Hours

Permanent part-time position; 60 hours biweekly

Compensation and Benefits

Clinical Therapist: $42.21 - $58.30 Hourly
Clinical Therapist (Developmental): $37.64 - $49.94 Hourly
