SIIT welcomes over 2400 students into our urban and community programs annually as well as serving over 6000 clients through our eight Career Centers across the province. The Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies is playing a significant role in Saskatchewan's economic future. You can contribute to that success while building your career.Nature and ScopeThe Maintenance & Security Coordinator plays a critical role as part of the team that provides safe, clean and efficient environment at SIIT. This position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT's vision, mission, and mandate. General AccountabilityThe incumbent is responsible for providing building maintenance services along with all related aspects of safety and security. The Maintenance & Security Coordinator focuses on facility operations that mitigate risk and ensure the safety of SIIT's employees, visitors and assets. Specific AccountabilitiesThe Maintenance & Security Coordinator will provide services regarding maintenance procedures and building operations to all of the SIIT sites. The incumbent will address mechanical issues, respond to technical queries, and promote best practices in health and safety. The Coordinator provides support in the Facilities department and is an active member of the Occupational Health & Safety Committees. This position is an active member of the Security Threat Assessment Team (STAT), and includes the following accountabilities:Maintenance & Administration Ensure that building electrical, mechanical and HVAC systems are maintained and operated to provide a safe, clean and comfortable environmentUndertake efficient and preventive maintenance practices Perform administrative duties including maintaining logs and certification records related to mechanical and assisting with life safety equipment of a facilityOrganize daily and seasonal work of contract interior cleaning and exterior building service providersRepair or replace facility equipment and components by having a broad knowledge of building materials and the ability to correctly and safety operate a variety of tools Respond to student/employee inquires and equipment alarms, and formulate a corrective action to maintain the safe operation of facilitiesPurchase order coordination: distribution to vendors, creation of purchase orders, appropriate coding, and ensuring established procedures are followedCreate and maintain electronic floor layout diagrams in collaboration with appropriate personnel Health & SafetyEnsure emergency and life safety equipment is operational by assisting with inspections and testingContributes to SIIT's strategic effectiveness by participating or attending SIIT committees and meetings as requiredAssist with the implementation of SIIT's security/safety standards and policiesRespond to health and safety concerns and take the appropriate action to address issuesCommunicate with contractors, building owners and other parties to resolve problems that impact public health, fire safety and structural sufficiency within SIIT facilitiesMaintain physical and electronic records and issue reports of inspections, including action taken and recommendations Security & ComplianceAssist in the development of security procedures and programs Assist and support all sites in the execution of emergency response exercises (notification, evacuation drills, fire scenarios, and security threats, etc.)Respond to emergencies and security issues, and ensure adequate preparedness to respond to and mitigate risksAssist with the installation and operation of security equipment and alarm systemsMonitor security industry best practices by researching and identifying new technologies, equipment and materials Required Qualifications and Experience: A diploma or certification related to commercial building maintenance and operations, with preference given to candidates with 5 or more years' experience. A valid Firemen's Certificate, Health & Safety credentials and trades related training are considered assets. A combination of education and experience may be considered. Must be in good physical condition in order to perform a variety of manual activities. Knowledge of First Nations culture and organization is an asset. Incumbent much have a reliable vehicle and valid driver's license as travel is required. Computer & Communication skills. As this position is considered safety sensitive, the incumbent will be subject to testing as per SIIT's Alcohol and Substances policy.
