Position Overview
Neskantaga Education Authority is seeking applications for a full-time Grade 3-4 Teacher at Neskantaga Education Centre. Neskantaga First Nation is a remote fly-in community. It is accessible from Thunder Bay, ON or Nakina, ON. This is a meaningful opportunity to teach and inspire students in a culturally rich and supportive environment. The successful candidate will lead a dynamic and inclusive classroom that promotes student learning, personal growth, and well-being.
Qualifications and Skills
- Certification : Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT); Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Teaching Experience : Proven experience teaching at the elementary level, ideally in a multi-grade classroom setting.
- Instructional Skills : Knowledge of current research-based teaching strategies in literacy and numeracy. Familiarity with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Differentiated Instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
- Assessment : Understanding of diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment practices, with the ability to support students at various levels of achievement.
- Classroom Management : Strong classroom management and organizational skills that create a safe, respectful learning environment.
- Technology : Proficiency with educational technology and digital tools to enhance teaching and student learning in the classroom.
- IEPs : Ability to develop, write, and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to support students with special learning requirements.
- First Nations Experience : Experience teaching in a First Nation or band-operated school or in a cross-cultural environment is an asset. Knowledge of Indigenous cultures and languages (e.g., Ojibwe, Oji-Cree, Cree) and / or additional qualifications in Special Education are considered strong assets.
