The Assistant, Bridges and Structures (B&S)Foreperson works for Bridges and Structures Group. In the absence of the B&S Foreperson, the incumbent is required to perform the Foreman’s duties, including leading employees, tracking protection, overseeing equipment and tools, and ordering material for various types of work.
Major Responsibilities
- Collaborate with teams in the Seniority Territory
- Lead, guide, and direct other employees
- Interpret drawings
- Layout work ahead of the team
- Prepare cost estimates and make sketches
- Perform administrative work such as preparing daily work reports
Working Conditions
- The role is performed in an outdoor environment in various types of weather conditions and is a safety-sensitive environment with heavy moving equipment and noisy surroundings
- The role must be capable of working in various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- The role requires frequent travel (80%) that requires work away from home for extended periods
- The role requires the ability to lift from 50 to 85 lbs as well as to climb and work at height using fall protection equipment
- May be required to work with respirator and hearing protection.
Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to qualify for a valid Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) rules card
- Must be able to qualify for National Safety Code (NSC) requirements and report as required
- Must be certified for Fall Protection and scaffold installation
- Must be able to complete rough carpentry for timber tie replacements, forming and pouring concrete for reinforced concrete structures and culverts, and culvert replacements
- Must be capable of work outlined in the United Steel Workers (USW) Agreement
- Knowledge of Standard Plans and Standard Practice Circulars (SPCs)
- Must be able to arrange and take proper track protection, including Track Occupancy Permit (TOP), Occupancy Control System (OCS) Clearance, and 842 protection

This position is a unionized position, as such pay and benefits are governed by the applicable Collective Agreement.
Paid Training
Successful candidates will take part in a paid four-week training program at a CN Campus (Winnipeg, MB) with additional on-the-job training to help ensure that they have received the adequate knowledge to operate in accordance with regulatory requirements and CN’s safety standards. The training is primarily on health and safety rules as successful completion of the classroom and on-the-job training is required to continue employment as an Assistant Foreperson at CN.

Paid Training Structure:
- 4 weeks at CN Campus
