Job description
Job Description

Are you mechanically inclined, organized, and looking for a hands-on role where your work directly supports safe, successful construction projects?
At Chandos, our Tool Technicians are critical to keeping our job sites running smoothly and we’re looking for an Assistant Tool Technician / Driver to support this function.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with tools, takes pride in maintaining equipment, and is comfortable supporting deliveries when needed. It’s also a strong entry point into our warehouse and logistics operations, with room to grow.

We don’t just hire for where you are today—we hire for where you can go tomorrow.

Why Chandos? The Ownership Advantage

Chandos is 100% employee-owned. We’re not publicly traded, and we don’t answer to outside shareholders—we answer to each other.

  • Invest in Yourself: Every employee has the opportunity to become an owner by purchasing units in the company.
  • Shared Success: When the company has a strong year, the board may approve a distribution to all unit holders—allowing you to benefit directly from Chandos’ success.
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: Because we’re owners, we treat the tools, equipment, and business like they’re ours—because they are

As part of our small, collaborative warehouse team, your primary focus will be supporting tool maintenance, readiness, and safety, with driving duties incorporated as needed.

Tool Technician Support (Primary Focus)

  • Tool Inspection & Maintenance: Assist with inspecting, servicing, and performing minor repairs on construction tools and equipment such as drills, grinders, generators, pressure washers, and compactors.
  • Repair Assistance: Support basic repairs including replacing cords, handles, blades, filters, and other common wear items.
  • Safety Checks: Help complete incoming and outgoing tool inspections to ensure equipment meets Chandos’ safety standards.
  • Tool Preparation: Clean, test, label, and stage tools so they are job-site ready at all times.
  • Inventory Support: Pick, prepare, and organize tools for site requests received via forms or phone calls.
  • Shop Organization: Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient tool shop and storage areas.

Driving & Logistics Support

  • Tool & Equipment Transport: Deliver and pick up tools and small equipment to and from job sites as required.
  • Warehouse Flow: Assist with moving tools between warehouse zones and coordinating external servicing or recertifications.
  • Professional Representation: Act as a courteous and safety-focused Chandos representative when on the road or at job sites.

Qualifications

  • Experience:
    • 1+ years working with tools, in a shop environment, or within the construction industry.
    • Tool rental, warehouse, or mechanical experience is an asset.
  • Technical Aptitude:
    • Comfortable identifying tool wear and assisting with basic maintenance and repairs.
  • Tool Familiarity:
    • Experience with some of the following is preferred:
      • Cordless and corded drills
      • Impact drivers
      • Concrete hammers
      • Grinders
      • Pneumatic nailers
      • Generators
      • Air compressors
      • Plate compactors
  • Driver’s License:
    • Valid Class 5 license with a clean abstract.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs for short distances (up to 50 feet).
    • Comfortable performing physical work, climbing ladders, and working in varying environments.

Additional Information

The Opportunity

This role offers hands-on experience with construction tools, exposure to warehouse and logistics operations, and the chance to grow within an employee-owned company that values initiative, safety, and teamwork.

If you take pride in keeping tools in top shape and enjoy supporting crews behind the scenes, this could be your next step at Chandos.

Why Join Chandos?

  • Path to Ownership: Every person at Chandos can become an owner. We have only one class of units because we believe everyone should be treated equally.
  • Competitive Rewards: Competitive wages, plus a well-rounded, employer-paid benefits program (health, dental, vision, and EAP).
  • Future Security: RRSP matching program and educational assistance for those looking to level up.
  • Culture of Connection: Annual salary reviews, leadership conferences, and regular company-wide engagement opportunities.
