Overview
Technical Field Representative Manager role at Atlantic Explosives Limited (AEL). AEL is an exclusive distributor of Orica products with access to Orica’s blasting solutions across North America. The position is based in Upper Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia, or Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland and Labrador, and involves field-based technical support for blasting operations and projects in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
The successful candidate will serve as a technical expert, supporting product applications, field-based client support, project execution, and technical guidance. The role acts as the field project manager for AEL solution offerings, with opportunities for long-term growth in the explosives industry across surface and underground mining, quarry, and construction projects. You will develop and maintain customer relationships to support commercial and operations teams, providing recommendations for best practices and applications backed by key metrics. Collaboration across teams to achieve customer satisfaction and effective project execution is essential.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate and / or lead the commitment to Zero Harm through behavioral-based safety.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Company HSE Performance Standards and relevant acts and regulations.
- Deliver Orica solution offerings; manage project scoping, KPI measurement, and execution of recommendations.
- Demonstrate Orica products and services at current and potential customer sites.
- Apply knowledge of regional industry and operations to identify new system applications and opportunities for value-added customer propositions.
- Identify opportunities for Orica’s newest technologies.
- Manage projects and document the success of design, application, and / or product changes in the field.
- Use tools and technology to complete tasks such as face profiles, borehole deviation measurements, blast geometry measurements, product sampling, and safety audits to support product application and blast improvement initiatives.
- Conduct blast performance measurements (e.g., high-speed video, vibration monitoring, velocity of detonation, dynamic pressure) to support product application and blast improvement initiatives.
- Perform post-blast assessments including fragmentation measurement, time studies, volumetric measurements, and blast reporting / documentation.
- Conduct time studies on personnel and equipment across operations (drill and blast, loading, processing, etc.).
- Effectively build and present proposals and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in mining, explosives, or related industries with progressively increasing responsibility. Background in mining, construction, quarry, or blasting is preferred for long-term growth in explosive supply and services. Knowledge of explosives technology, basic geology, and seismology is essential. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, professionalism, self-direction, and a proven ability to build positive relationships with colleagues and clients are required. Technical proficiency with blasting performance tools and current instrumentation / software used in the industry is key. A bachelor’s degree in mining, geotechnical, mineral, geological engineering, or civil engineering is preferred; relevant experience with advanced technical knowledge may substitute for formal degree. A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel are required.
