Are you a wet lab scientist with a passion for emerging sequencing technologies and bio-banking?

We’re hiring a Research Technician III to play a central role in day‑to‑day operations across the Manitoba Tumour Bank and the Research Genomics Platform, supporting high‑impact projects and next‑generation sequencing workflows (Illumina and Oxford Nanopore PromethION).

Working under general supervision, you’ll bring strong hands‑on lab skills, organize and schedule your own work to meet milestones, and help drive quality in wet lab genomics, biobanking, and method implementation.

About the CCMB Manitoba Tumour Bank & Genomics Platforms

Located at the interface of fundamental and clinical research, CCMB’s platforms support omics‑driven studies in cancer combining in‑house sequencing (Illumina and nanopore), advanced wet lab workflows, and leading-edge bio-banking.

We collaborate across provincial and national initiatives and support local clinical, academic, and translational partners with robust biobanking and sequencing services.

Why Join Us?

This is a rare opportunity to:

  • Contribute to core wet lab operations in biobanking and genomics, from biosample processing to sequencing library prep and instrument operation.
  • Grow expertise across molecular biology, primary cell culture, protein/immune assays, and advanced NGS workflows.
  • Help standardize and adapt protocols, bringing new techniques into production with strong QC, biosafety, and documentation.
  • Work in a collaborative environment that produces large‑scale genomic datasets and supports investigator‑led discovery and publications.
  • Opportunity to develop your own technical depth and collaborative skills.

Your Role

Joint MTB & Genomics Platform Responsibilities

  • Communicate with users; coordinate sample intake and organize submitted biosamples.
  • Process liquid and solid biospecimens for storage and downstream cellular/nucleic acid analyses.
  • Perform flow cytometry, FACS, MACS, and related biosample separation/analysis workflows.
  • Prepare NGS libraries for applications such as RNA‑seq and whole‑genome sequencing.
  • Perform QC on nucleic acids and sequencing libraries (e.g., Agilent Tapestation or similar).
  • Operate next‑generation sequencing instruments, such as Illumina NextSeq 2000.
  • Catalogue MTB patient biosamples and associated data; enter records into registries/databases.

Support platform operations through inventory & ordering, equipment maintenance, billing for users, platform promotion/outreach, and other activities that sustain operations.

What You Bring

  • Master’s degree in a related discipline or Bachelor’s degree with minimum 3 years directly related experience. An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR).
  • Experience with next‑generation sequencing (library prep; operation of NGS instruments).
  • Experience working with human tumour samples or blood separation.
  • Experience with tissue culture, creation of tumour spheres is considered an asset.
  • Experience with flow cytometry.

What We Offer

  • A key technical role within Manitoba’s flagship multi‑omics environment (biobanking + genomics).
  • Access to high‑throughput infrastructure and a growing network of collaborators.
  • An inclusive team of researchers, clinicians, and data scientists committed to training and mentorship.
  • A dynamic environment that supports professional growth and innovation.

Interested and qualified applicants are invited to submit a detailed and current resume, plus a cover letter demonstrating how you meet the above qualifications and the above competition number.

This position is subject to a Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search, an Adult Abuse Registry Check and a Child Abuse Registry Check. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred.
