JOB SYNOPSIS:
Under the direction and guidance from the Outdoor Operations Manager, the Grooming Supervisor is responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective operation of Whitewater Mountain Resort’s Grooming Department. This role oversees the daily planning and execution of all grooming, snow removal, and heavy equipment operations to ensure exceptional skiing conditions, safe mountain access, and efficient base area operations.
The Grooming Supervisor will oversee Snowcat Operations of 4 Prinoth Snowcats, as well as parking lot clearing with two Loaders. They will provide leadership, training, scheduling, and operational direction to Grooming Department staff while working closely with other Outdoor Operations departments to achieve organizational goals. This position is responsible for maintaining high standards of safety, equipment care, operational quality, and staff performance, while ensuring departmental operations align with Whitewater Mountain Resort’s mission, values, operational objectives, and budget expectations. This position requires night shift work.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise the safe and efficient daily operation of the Grooming Department.
- Plan, schedule, and oversee all snowcat grooming operations to ensure high-quality skiing and riding conditions.
- Oversee snow removal operations for parking lots, access roads, base areas, and resort infrastructure.
- Coordinate daily operational priorities with the Outdoor Operations Manager and other resort departments.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, training, and performance management for Grooming Department staff.
- Monitor operator performance, machine productivity, and grooming quality through regular field observations and operational reporting.
- Utilize Skadii to monitor operator performance, track machine productivity, review GPS grooming data, and support operational decision making.
- Ensure all operators are completing accurate pre-trip and post-trip inspections through Skadii.
- Ensure all equipment deficiencies, damage reports, and maintenance requests are properly documented and submitted through Skadii and communicated to the Vehicle Maintenance Department.
- Develop and maintain department training standards, operating procedures, and safe work practices.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, WorkSafeBC regulations, and departmental safety procedures.
- Maintain awareness of weather forecasts, snow conditions, and operational impacts to support grooming strategies and operational planning.
- Assist with the planning and execution of terrain park construction and maintenance in coordination with appropriate departments.
- Coordinate grooming and snow removal requirements for races, events, and special projects.
- Assist with payroll submission, scheduling, record keeping, budgeting, and other administrative duties as required.
- Maintain a safe, professional, and organized work environment.
- Respond to operational issues and assist during emergency situations as required.
- Promote Whitewater Mountain Resort’s mission, values, and safety culture.
- Other duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION:
- Minimum 5 years of snowcat grooming and snow removal experience.
- Experience operating heavy equipment in winter conditions (Loaders and excavator)
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience required.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License required.
- Air Brake Endorsement considered an asset.
- Mechanical background considered an asset.
- High School Diploma Required.
- Valid First Aid certification is considered an asset.
- Experience using GPS grooming and fleet management systems such as Skadii considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of Snowcat operations, Winch Cat operations and run rebuild programs.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Strong understanding of safe work practices related to heavy equipment and winter operations.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and composure during high-pressure situations.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on operational quality, equipment care, and safety compliance.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing positively to the larger operations team.
- Proficient with computer systems, digital reporting platforms, and operational software including Skadii.
