Job descriptionBe eligible for registration as a registered apprentice; or Be a registered apprentice. Motivated and willing to learn. Hold a valid recognized Alberta Journeyperson Trade Certificate or a recognized trade certificate or equivalency document. Inter-Provincial Red Seal Certificate is preferred. Mechanical aptitude with willingness to learn 2 years of directly related work experience. This position may be required to direct coach and mentor apprentices. As a condition of employment employees are required upon hire to sign a Drug-Free Workplace Agreement a Conflict of Interest Agreement and Confidentiality and Invention Agreement. Works well with others trades and co-workers through effective and written communication. Flexibility to work overtime when necessary Excellent coordination focus and dedication to following safety protocols Ability to work safely and take special precautions to protect against injury Accuracy and attention to detail Reading document use writing numeracy oral communication thinking skills working with others computer use and continuous learning. Ability to cut materials using power tools or by hand. Ability to read and interpret blueprints drawings and specifications. Ability to visualize a finished product from a drawing. The ability to use their hands skillfully and quickly. The ability to estimate and measure sizes and distances accurately. The ability to work independently at tasks that require concentration as well as physical effort. Interacts with other trades and supervisor for the purpose of providing or receiving routine information in regards to their needs. May be required to perform similar work in various departments while taking direction from other leads / foremen / supervisors. Interacts with clients / vendors as requested by immediate supervisor. This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Position has latitude to apply judgment in immediate work environment with guidance from established guidelines and standards. Issues of a more complex nature or beyond the scope of the position are referred to the immediate supervisor. Fabrication shops are frequently noisy dusty busy areas with some confined spaces attention to personal and team safety is required May be required to work outdoors all types of weather Must be in good physical condition with the physical strength and stamina required to occasionally lift heavy materials in excess of 10 kilograms and stand for long periods Frequent bending and working at heights There is some risk of injury when working with power tools and heavy equipment Employees must adhere to dress code for safety sensitive areas. Company-standard PPE for shops and yards includes CSA approved steel toed boots and full length pants Ability to walk on uneven ground that is expected in yards Undertakes effective daily planning and completes tasks on time Responds to incidents immediately Ensures all reports are submitted in adherence to set time frames Timely follow up is an important function of the job Maintains professionalism under time constraints multiple tasks and changing priorities Accuracy and attention to detail is crucial to the job Work is performed neatly and accurately - the outcome of the work is complete and error free All reports must contain complete and accurate information Learns new systems and procedures Establishes and maintains strong internal and external relationships Communicates respectfully and ethically with all internal and external stakeholders Appropriately safeguards confidential information Understands and follows written and oral directions Reads interprets and utilizes manuals Communicates ideas and provides clear explanations to all levels of organization Handles inquiries with professionalism Has a positive working relationship with other staff and is willing to work toward the departments goals and timeline Consistently produces error free work within appropriate timeframe. - Calculate dimensions and tolerances and prepare working sketches if necessary.
- Measure and mark metal and other materials.
- Set-up and operate tools which may be computer numerically controlled to perform precision machining operations.
- Fit parts to mechanisms and verify dimensions.
