What we are looking for:

Our Ontario Engineering Design Center is looking for an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to join one of our GTA or Waterloo offices. As a member of the multidisciplinary design team, the Electrical Engineer will work on a broad spectrum of electrical aspects for multiple projects, including new installations, upgrades of existing systems, testing, commissioning, and system optimization. This person must have solid understanding of low and medium voltage power distribution design, motor control concepts and functionality, electrical system protection and control, standby power options and implementation, lighting systems, fire alarm systems, detailed design work, construction contract administration and support, and commissioning activities for water and wastewater treatment plants, industrial facilities, solid waste and non-utility power generation plants in municipal and industrial sectors. Quick adaptation to different clients’ design standards is a must.

Working with an energetic and high-performing team, this position offers a variety of duties and will see you involved in:

  • Completing condition assessments for various facilities including report writing and participation in client meetings.
  • Preparing detailed design drawing packages for projects of varying scale, including the following:Utility interconnectionSubstation design supportElectrical system protection and coordination, including power system studiesMV power distributionMV motor controlStandby power systems designLV power distributionLV motor controlInstrumentation and ControlBuilding services (lighting, security, Fire Alarm SystemsDC systemsGroundingEquipment layouts
  • Completion and review of electrical design calculations.
  • Electrical systems modelling using ETAP, SKM, or Easy Power.
  • Interior and Exterior Lighting systems modelling
  • Preparation of contract documentation, including equipment specifications, cable/conduit schedules, installation specifications, equipment procurement documents, sub-contractor requisitions, scope-of-work, bill-of-materials, and process narratives.
  • Working as part of and potentially leading an electrical project team throughout project phases and monitoring schedule, quality of deliverable and budgets.
  • Support during tendering and construction, including responding to RFIs, assisting GHD and client site personnel, reviewing shop drawings, evaluating electrical reports (short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, ground potential rise (GPR), harmonics, etc), completing site inspections, preparing testing plans, preparing and evaluating change orders, and participating in project meetings.
  • Preparing and leading electrical-specific meetings with clients, presenting design options, system functionality, etc.
  • Coordination of electrical system designs with other engineering disciplines (process, mechanical, civil, structural, , vendors, and outside design team members. Providing direction to and coordination with the internal designers/drafters team.
  • Ensuring compliance with electrical codes and standards, relevant industry standards, and regulations. Coordination and liaison with clients and approving authorities.
  • Support GHD design teams in the US as well as Western Canada.

What you´ll bring to the team:

  • . in Electrical Engineering
  • Must be a registered member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario. . license is considered an asset.
  • Engineering licenses or registration with relevant organizations in other provinces, as well as in US states, will be considered an asset.
  • 5-10 years of experience involved in the design and implementation of electrical systems, including power distribution, standby power & generators, motors and drives, lighting, as well as a solid understanding of field instrumentation and automated equipment integration.
  • Fire Alarm systems design experience will be considered an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of Canadian electrical codes and standards, US codes and standards, relevant industry standards, and regulations.
  • Strong analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail and continual diligence to follow up. Ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Self-motivated, with a strong desire to learn.
  • Well organized, able to multitask and lead multiple projects. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and written/oral communication skills.
  • Ability to be a part of multi-functional teams with the ability to relate well and cooperate with other members of the team, to effectively coordinate activities and accomplish goals.
  • G class driver’s license is considered an asset

The salary range for this position is: $ 66,700 - $111,125K.

The posted salary range represents the expected hiring range for GHD locations in its major city centres. Ranges may vary for positions in other locations. At GHD, base salary is determined by your skills, experience, qualifications, and work location.
