Analyst, Business Intelligence and Performance Reporting - Hybrid
The Opportunity
The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is currently recruiting for an Analyst role in the Operations Division Regulatory Enhancement Branch. The role will work within the Business Intelligence and Performance Reporting team to provide data analytics, data collection solutions, reports and dashboards for multiple operational areas for regulatory decision making.
As an Analyst you will fulfill requests by engaging with operational areas to gain an understanding of their requirements and determine business intelligence solutions that will ensure operational effectiveness. Often you will be working with data from multiple sources and determining the best way to represent it visually for business insight. This role assists subject matter experts in getting high quality data in support of evidence-based decision-making processes through authorizations, regulatory appeals, inspections, and audits.
You will knowledge share and work collaboratively with a team of business intelligence data specialists utilizing best practices for product life-cycle management for business intelligence in the organization. The team is multi-disciplinary, and you will have exposure to varied specialities including business analysis, SQL data analysis, SQL database development, data visualization, and low code software development. What your day-to-day will look like:
Fulfill business intelligence requests in accordance with best practices and tools to present data as meaningful information to help support decision making.
Develop and maintain metrics, visualizations, reports and dashboards to provide the insight business areas need to effectively manage performance and identify improvement opportunities.
Manage business intelligence products through the entire product lifecycle in accordance with best practices.
Analyze data using the most applicable analytical methods and techniques to extract meaning and insight to help customers solve business problems.
Gain and maintain understanding of AER business processes and data.
What we’re looking for in you:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Math or Science related discipline required.
3-5 years experience in analytics, business intelligence or data science or a combination of both education and/or experience will be considered.
Experience in data gathering, databases, data analysis, and visualization technical skills.
Experience with business intelligence software (Tableau, MS SQL Server, MS Excel, Power Apps, Power BI, python).
Experience in artificial intelligence usage for business intelligence purposes.
Critical thinker with creative problem-solving skills.
Use creative and simple design to enhance data visualization and reports.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Interpersonal skills for the establishment and maintenance of positive working relationships with internal stakeholders.
