We specialize in consulting, engineering, procurement and construction across the project lifecycle, with services extending through to operations and decommissioning. Leveraging extensive experience and AI-enabled delivery, we support customers in navigating complexity as they meet today's needs and transition to more sustainable solutions.

Purpose:
We are currently recruiting for a Lead Instrumentation Engineer. Our team includes world class experts and dynamic go-getters. This is a full-time position based in Sarnia, Ontario.

As a Lead Instrumentation Engineer, you will provide technical leadership and discipline oversight for instrumentation and control engineering activities across a variety of industrial projects. Working within multidisciplinary teams, you will lead the development and delivery of safe, practical, and fit-for-purpose engineering solutions while ensuring compliance with quality, budget, and schedule commitments.

This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, mentoring others, and collaborating closely with clients, project teams, and vendors to achieve successful project outcomes. Based in Sarnia, you will play a key role in the design, implementation, and commissioning of instrumentation and control systems that improve facility performance, reliability, and operational excellence across EPC and EPCM project environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead instrumentation and control engineering activities through all phases of project execution, from concept development and detailed design through construction support, commissioning, and startup.
  • Provide technical leadership, oversight, and mentorship to instrumentation engineers, designers, and technical specialists, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
  • Develop, review, and approve instrumentation engineering deliverables including instrument indexes, datasheets, specifications, I/O lists, control narratives, logic diagrams, loop drawings, cause-and-effect matrices, and installation packages.
  • Design and specify field instrumentation, analyzers, control valves, safety systems, and associated automation infrastructure.
  • Support the development, integration, and optimization of Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZOP studies, SIL assessments, constructability reviews, and other project risk management activities.
  • Review and evaluate vendor documentation, technical bid submissions, packaged equipment designs, and factory acceptance testing requirements.
  • Collaborate effectively with process, electrical, mechanical, piping, civil, project management, and construction teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
  • Ensure all engineering work complies with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and client requirements while maintaining Worley's commitment to safety and technical integrity.
  • Support industrial automation, digital transformation, and control system cybersecurity initiatives where applicable.
  • Manage discipline budgets, schedules, forecasts, and resource requirements to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Build trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders, serving as a technical advisor and contributing to the successful delivery of complex projects.
  • Support proposal development, project planning, estimating activities, and business growth opportunities.

What you will bring:
Technical and Industry Experience:

  • You bring extensive experience leading instrumentation and control engineering activities within industrial facilities such as chemicals, petrochemicals, refining, energy, manufacturing, mining, or other process industries.
  • You have a strong understanding of instrumentation design, specification, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management, along with demonstrated experience delivering projects within EPC and EPCM environments.
  • You possess advanced knowledge of instrumentation and automation systems, including DCS, PLC, SCADA, and SIS platforms, and are comfortable working with industrial communication networks and protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, Profinet, and Ethernet/IP. Your technical expertise is complemented by a practical approach to problem solving, allowing you to identify issues, evaluate alternatives, and develop effective solutions in complex operating environments.
  • You are recognized as a collaborative and influential leader who can guide multidisciplinary teams, build strong client relationships, and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels. You are motivated by technical challenges, committed to continuous learning, and passionate about mentoring and developing others.
  • Success in this role will be demonstrated through the successful delivery of instrumentation and control scopes on complex industrial projects, the ability to lead engineering teams through multiple project phases, and a proven track record of improving safety, reliability, operability, and project performance through innovative engineering solutions.
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant instrumentation and control engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading instrumentation engineering activities on multidisciplinary industrial projects.
  • Experience working within EPC and EPCM project delivery environments.
  • Functional Safety certification and experience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
  • Experience with control loop tuning, advanced process control, or automation optimization.
  • Experience supporting commissioning, startup, and operational troubleshooting activities.
  • Experience within chemical, petrochemical, refining, or other heavy industrial facilities
