Purpose:
We are currently recruiting for a Lead Electrical Engineer to support a major project in Sarnia, Ontario. Our team includes world class experts and dynamic go-getters. This is a full-time position based in Sarnia, Ontario and will provide electrical engineering leadership for project work in an operating industrial facility.

The Lead Electrical Engineer will lead the development and delivery of safe, practical, and fit-for-purpose electrical engineering solutions across the project lifecycle. The role requires strong technical expertise, experience delivering work in chemical, fertilizer, oil and gas, petrochemical, or similar process-industry environments, and the ability to coordinate effectively with the client, project team, suppliers, contractors, and other engineering disciplines. Success will be demonstrated through high-quality deliverables, disciplined execution, proactive risk management, and reliable support for construction, commissioning, startup, and handover.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership for the electrical engineering scope from early engineering and design through procurement, construction, commissioning, startup, and handover.
  • Lead the preparation, review, and approval of electrical deliverables, including design criteria, specifications, calculations, studies, single-line diagrams, schematics, equipment data sheets, cable schedules, layouts, grounding, lighting, and installation details.
  • Oversee the design and integration of HV, MV, and LV power distribution systems, substations, transformers, switchgear, motor control centres, motors, variable-frequency drives, emergency and uninterruptible power systems, protection and control systems, and related electrical infrastructure.
  • Ensure electrical designs account for existing-plant conditions, system interfaces, tie-ins, shutdown requirements, constructability, maintainability, operability, and safe execution within an operating facility.
  • Lead or review power-system studies, including load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, arc-flash, motor-starting, grounding, and related analyses, as required by the project scope.
  • Apply relevant client requirements, Worley procedures, Canadian codes and standards, Ontario requirements, and recognized industry practices throughout design and delivery.
  • Coordinate closely with process, instrumentation and controls, mechanical, piping, civil, structural, project controls, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operations stakeholders to resolve interfaces and support integrated project delivery.
  • Prepare technical requisitions, evaluate supplier proposals, review vendor documentation, respond to technical queries, and support equipment selection, procurement, inspection, and expediting activities.
  • Plan and assign work, establish priorities, monitor progress, review technical outputs, and provide guidance and mentorship to engineers and designers.
  • Identify technical, safety, schedule, cost, and execution risks early; develop mitigation actions; and escalate issues that could affect project outcomes.
  • Manage electrical scope, engineering hours, deliverable schedules, and changes while maintaining quality, budget, and project commitments.
  • Participate in design reviews, model reviews, hazard and constructability reviews, client meetings, site walkdowns, and field verification activities.
  • Provide engineering support during construction and commissioning, including responses to field queries, review of deviations, deficiency resolution, energization planning, and turnover documentation.
  • Build trusted client relationships through clear communication, responsiveness, sound technical judgment, and consistent delivery of value.
  • Support proposals, estimates, execution planning, and continuous improvement initiatives when required.

What you will bring:
Technical and Industry Experience:

  • 15+ years of progressively responsible electrical engineering experience, including experience leading electrical scopes and teams on complex industrial projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in chemical, fertilizer, petrochemical, oil and gas, refining, or other process-industry facilities; experience supporting work in an operating or brownfield plant environment is strongly preferred.
  • Experience delivering projects through EPC or EPCM models and across engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup phases.
  • Strong knowledge of HV, MV, and LV power distribution, substations, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, motors, drives, protection and control, grounding, lighting, emergency power, and associated electrical systems.
  • Practical experience with electrical system studies and the application of study results to equipment ratings, protection settings, arc-flash risk management, and system performance.
  • Working knowledge of applicable CSA standards, including the Canadian Electrical Code, Ontario Electrical Safety Code requirements, NFPA, IEEE, NEMA, and other relevant regulatory and industry requirements.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing engineering specifications, design criteria, philosophies, calculations, studies, drawings, equipment requisitions, bid evaluations, vendor documentation, and construction or commissioning work packages.
  • Proficiency with ETAP, SKM PowerTools, EasyPower, CDEGS, or comparable electrical analysis and design tools.
  • Experience completing site walkdowns, verifying existing conditions, defining tie-ins, and developing practical solutions for brownfield modifications and plant constraints.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical decisions, resolve complex engineering issues, manage interfaces, and deliver fit-for-purpose solutions.
  • Strong planning, prioritization, communication, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple deliverables and competing project needs.
  • A client-focused and collaborative approach, supported by sound judgment, accountability, attention to detail, and a consistent commitment to quality and safe project delivery.
