Clifton is currently searching for Junior Geotechnical Engineers to join our Earth Sciences practice team in various locations in Saskatchewan. In this role you will work with a dynamic group of professionals across a broad range of disciplines and play a key role in the delivery of professional engineering services for a variety of exciting geotechnical projects throughout the province.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate on a wide variety of geotechnical projects including field investigations; laboratory testing and interpretation; geotechnical analysis; and construction inspection.
  • Work on large complex or multidisciplinary projects according to client-approved scopes of work and deliver high quality reports on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate and execute geotechnical field programs for infrastructure mining dams buildings land development and slope stability projects. Will involve drilling geotechnical boreholes test pits CPT and logging of soils and rock.
  • Work will involve a combination of field and office environments. Fieldwork may range from short site visits up to multiple- day assignments with infrequent to occasional one- or two-week shifts on-site as required.
  • Analyze field data and prepare detailed engineering reports and recommendations required for the assessment and design of shallow and deep foundations dams excavations retaining structures and earth structures.
  • Coordinate and execute geotechnical field inspection of construction works and foundation installations including testing of geotechnical materials.
  • Ensure effective task management including accountability for time budget and technical requirements of assigned projects.
  • Maintain positive client sub-consultant and co-worker relationships.
  • Act as a safety leader and champion for Cliftons health and safety program.
  • Ensure adherence to Cliftons Quality Management System (QMS) in project delivery including contracts management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Geotechnical Geological or Mining Engineering. Preference given to candidates who have obtained a Graduate Degree in Geotechnical or Geological Engineering.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) with APEGS.
  • Between zero to six (0-6) years of relevant geotechnical or geological experience working in the consulting or mining industry. New Bachelors degree graduates welcome to apply.
  • Experience using geological modelling and geotechnical software (i.e. Slope / W Rocscience gINT pile capacity software etc.) an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills including effective management of multiple and conflicting priorities with the ability to meet deadlines in the context of work / life balance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication time and team management skills.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Ability to travel to various locations (including remote locations) to complete field work as required.
  • Ability and willingness to work in inclement weather and remote locations.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 drivers license provide a drivers abstract before the start of employment and be eligible for coverage under Cliftons vehicle insurance as a condition of employment. The drivers abstract will be reviewed in the context of overall driving history and job requirements.
  • Must be comfortable operating mid- to full-size trucks in urban rural and construction environments.
