Background with Potash Mine design and operations, with knowledge of tailings management and the current Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM), would be an asset.

Your role within the team:

  • Act as a key technical resource or lead for ongoing mining projects across Saskatchewan including work with Tailings Management Area planning and design.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams related to the management, planning and design of mine tailings from concept through to construction.
  • Technical tasks may also include tailings dam inspections, dam safety reviews, and other studies related to the design and behaviour of tailings facilities
  • Undertake geotechnical assessments, complex analysis, design calculations and detailed designs with knowledge of specialized software for slope stability, flow and stress-strain analysis such as GeoStudio, Rock science and PLAXIS.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of existing and emerging opportunities, trends, regulatory requirements and best practices e.g. ICMM, GISTM, etc.
  • Provide practical and economic solutions to clients that differentiate the team.
  • Contribute to the development of project proposals/cost estimates and participate in the process of securing new business opportunities or expanding the scope of existing projects.
  • Understand construction drawings and design reports to support construction and provide guidance and troubleshooting for QA field testing and performance of materials such as soil and concrete.
  • Analyze and prepare recommendations and reports relating to areas such as foundation design, infrastructure, shoring, retaining walls, slope stability, ground improvement, settlement and deformation analysis, seismic & liquefaction assessments, road structure design, dikes and dams, materials testing, and other geotechnical related projects.
  • Understanding of complex analytical results and application for design and/or research. A strong understanding of undrained shear strength, soil loading, and liquefaction related to coarse and fine tailings review would be an asset.
  • Identify/anticipate/evaluate market trends, opportunities, and industry dynamics.

Why choose AtkinsRéalis as an employer?

  • Demonstrated local market knowledge and an established presence and reputation within the local geotechnical consulting and client network.
  • Highly developed client management skills.
  • Extensive experience in one or more of the following sectors: highways, rail, municipal, industrial, mining, commercial or residential geotechnics.
  • Experience acting as a senior technical expert for a site or design.
  • A strong academic background with a relevant degree (ideally MSc or equivalent).
