Our Senior Business Intelligence (BI) Specialist is a master of data analytics. We’re looking for a Senior Business Intelligence (BI) Specialist to join our head office located in Vernon, British Columbia. Our head office houses Tolko’s corporate services groups including Sales, Marketing & Logistics, Finance, Accounting & Credit, IT, Procurement and Human Resources. This is an on-site position and remote work is not available at this time.
Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
- Minimum 6 years of relevant experience working in a development role.
- Comprehensive data warehouse analysis and design experience, with a full knowledge of data warehouse methodologies and data modeling.
- Extensive experience with SQL coding best practices, and Data warehousing techniques for both on prem and cloud-based architectures.
- Knowledgeable on model security and the implications and impact of various techniques such as RLS.
- Responsibilities will include engineering new data pipelines as well as supporting existing models and data delivery methods.
- Strong understanding of data architecture, structures, theories, principles, and practices.
- Broad based business skills and a strong background in both data & analytics tools.
- Strong knowledge of SSAS, SSRS, and Power BI.
- Experience with Azure data platform such as Databricks, OneLake and Microsoft Fabric.

In this role, you will:
- Direct, organize, and lead projects in the implementation and use of new BI software tools and systems.
- Lead the integration efforts for merging data & analytics platforms with enterprise systems and applications.
- Hands on design, code, test, and document all new or modified data & analytics systems, applications, and programs.
- Develop the semantic layer, metadata, and report definitions.
- Assist in the design of data pipelines and data warehouses to ensure interoperability with BI solutions.
- Code ETL pipelines and produce design guidelines to ensure a manageable ETL infrastructure for the BI system.
- Support and analyze existing software systems, data & analytics applications, operational reporting, and ETL processes that feed the data warehouses.
- Select, blueprint, gather requirements, design, and deploy data & analytics solutions to end users.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders and IT teams to deliver data-driven solutions that meet business needs and objectives.
- Develop and maintain documentation, standards, and best practices for BI processes and solutions.
- Research and evaluate new technologies and trends in the BI domain and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Mentor and provide leadership to junior members of the team.
- Supports a process-focused culture that enables moving data and analytics maturity level
- Build and support partnerships with the business by addressing their requirements with data driven solutions
