Database specialist Jobs in North York, ON

We are offering a contract employment opportunity for a Database Developer in Toronto. The Database Developer will be involved in the development and maintenance of data sets, data modeling, interactive reporting, and database administration.

Responsibilities :

• Develop and maintain data sets utilizing tools such as dbt, Microsoft SQL, PostgreSQL, S3 Data Lake, Athena, and Redshift, transforming raw data into clean, consistent, and usable formats.
• Collaborate with data engineers to ensure data quality and consistency across all platforms and systems.
• Design and implement efficient data storage and retrieval models to optimize data pipelines.
• Design, develop, and manage interactive Power BI reports, dashboards, and visualizations, translating complex data insights into clear, concise, and actionable reports.
• Stay updated on the latest Power BI trends and best practices, and implement advanced features like calculated columns, measures, and DAX formulas.
• Manage and maintain SQL Server instances in an AWS cloud environment as well as on premise.
• Perform routine backups, restores, and performance optimizations to ensure the smooth running of SQL Server instances.
• Implement security best practices to protect sensitive data and troubleshoot any SQL Server issues effectively.
• Work closely with data analysts and business users to understand their needs and translate them into technical solutions.
• Document data pipelines, reports, and processes clearly and concisely, and stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends in the data analytics space.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Database Developer role or similar position
• Proficiency in using Microsoft SQL Server is mandatory
• Solid experience in Python programming language
• In-depth knowledge of T-SQL - Transact-SQL is a must
• Experience with AWS Athena is highly desirable
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think algorithmically
• Excellent understanding of database structures, principles, theories, and practices
• Proven ability to work in a team environment
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
• Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and methodologies is a plus
• Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information.
