Job Title: Database Administrator/Architect

Our client is currently seeking an experienced Database Administrator/Architect to work out of their Toronto office.
Role:
As a member of the Enterprise Architecture team within Information Services, the Data Base Administrator/Architect is responsible for defining and maintaining enterprise-wide Dbases, data architecture and data governance in order to expand the company’s use of data as a strategic enabler of corporate goals and objectives. The DBA/Architect participates in annual strategic planning contributing to the architectural roadmap of the organization. The DBA/Architect will also participate in Project initiatives to provide subject matter expertise as part of design, evaluation, selection and implementation activities.
The DBA/Architect will be required to perform the following tasks as part of role:
§ Design and deploy data architecture
§ Identify improvements to existing databases by determining users' information requirements and system performance and functional requirements;
§ Implement enterprise data architecture and data management processes, procedures
§ Resolve conflicts among users' needs for data;
§ Advise programmers, analysts, and users about the efficient use of data;
§ Generate new database from physical design specifications;
§ Perform or check database sizing results;
§ Develops and implements procedures that will ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of data stored in the database;
§ Produce and review data architecture related models, documents and other deliverables
§ Develops and implements security procedures for the database, including access and user account management
§ Develops and maintains data dictionaries;
§ Maintains configuration control of the database;
§ Coordinates changes to the database, including the deletion of records, changes to the existing records and additions to the database;
§ Performs updates to the database design;
§ Responsible for implementing database tuning procedures;
§ Develops and coordinates backup, disaster recovery and virus protection procedures.
Qualifications:
| § A minimum of 5 years experience in designing and deploying data architectures (data architecture, data modeling, physical database design, database administration and data warehouses) for business application § Experience with business requirements analysis, entity relationship planning, database design, reporting structures, etc. § Experience with data modeling tools / techniques and data manipulation languages (Erwin, PL-SQL, XML, etc.). § Direct experience in implementing enterprise data architecture and data management processes, procedures, and decision support. § Demonstrated expertise with repository creation, and data and information system life cycle methodologies. § Experience producing and reviewing data architecture related models, documents and other deliverables. § Demonstrated ability to enforce adherence and process improvement to standards. § Strong understanding of RDBMS databases such SQL Server and Oracle § Understanding of Master Data Management concepts § A strong understanding of data-related industry trends, laws and best practice § Background in full lifecycle implementation or COTS and/or in-house systems development in the role of developer, analyst or database administrator. § Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. § Working knowledge of Visio, ARIS or other modeling tools desirable. § Experience with Business Intelligence, Data Warehouse, Operational Data Stores, Dimensional Modeling skills an asset § Financial sector experience (preferably in banking) is considered an asset. § Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. § Highly self-motivated and directed, able to manage multiple initiatives, driven by separate senior stakeholders simultaneously. § Proven analytical, conceptual and problem-solving abilities. § Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. § Able to interact with both Senior IS and Senior Business executives appropriately.
Education / Training: § University, college or technical degree in information technology. Alternatively, extensive proven track record in the primary position disciplines within the Financial Sector environment.
Licenses / Certificates: § Technical Designations are valued, but not required. § ITIL Foundations V3 desirable. |
