Job description
We’re MERAK — a tight-knit, fully remote Canadian software consulting company made up of passionate technology and business experts who love solving problems. For over 30 years, we’ve helped clients modernize, streamline, and thrive by delivering tailored software solutions, systems integration, and practical digital strategy that fits real business needs.

We’ve been recognized as a Great Place to Work and one of Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers, reflecting a culture built on trust, collaboration, and continuous learning. Many of our opportunities come through long-term client relationships and referrals, which says a lot about how we work and how we show up.

Through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program, we’re hiring a Junior CMS Developer to support real client projects while gaining hands-on experience in a structured, learning-focused environment.

This role is best suited to early-career candidates, especially recent graduates of Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related programs, as well as candidates with prior experience building websites using Drupal or WordPress.

Role Details

  • Duration: 8 weeks
  • Hours: 35–40 per week
  • Rate: $25-27.50/hour
  • Location: Remote (Canada-based)
  • Program: Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ)

What You’ll Be Doing

This role is focused on real project contribution while building strong foundational development skills.
  • Support development and maintenance of websites using Drupal and/or WordPress.
  • Contribute to theme and plugin/module development under senior developer guidance.
  • Work with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to implement front-end changes.
  • Update content, configurations, and site structure within CMS platforms (Drupal/WordPress).
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies such as stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
  • Translate requirements into structured development tasks.
  • Assist with bug fixes, testing, maintenance updates, and production support.
  • Monitoring CMS solutions in Cloud environments (Azure and AWS)
  • Work with Git/version control in a collaborative team environment.
  • Contribute to documentation and continuous improvement of development practices.
  • Integrate CMS into Azure DevOps and GitHub CI/CD pipelines

Must-Haves (CSJ + Role Fit)

  • Age 15–30 at start of employment.
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person.
  • Valid Social Insurance Number (SIN).
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada under applicable provincial or territorial laws.
  • Currently located in Canada.
  • Basic understanding of HTML/CSS and how websites function.
  • Experience with Drupal and/or WordPress as development platforms.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Comfort working in an independent environment.
Note: International students are not eligible for CSJ positions.

Strong Assets

We are especially interested in candidates who bring one or more of the following:
  • Recent graduate of Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related program.
  • Exposure to structured programming, web development, or database fundamentals through coursework.
  • Experience building or contributing to websites in Drupal and/or WordPress.
  • Familiarity with Git, PHP, or other CMS platforms.
  • Understanding of basic software development lifecycle concepts.
If you have built CMS websites (Drupal or WordPress), please include links to your work in your application and briefly describe your role and contributions.

What to Expect

This is a development-focused CSJ role using CMS platforms (Drupal/WordPress) as the working environment, not a CMS training program.
  • You will be expected to apply existing technical and academic knowledge.
  • You will learn how to develop effectively in a real-world team environment.
  • Guidance will be provided on development practices, workflows, and standards.
  • You will not be responsible for learning CMS platforms from scratch as a primary objective.
  • You will not be responsible for system architecture or senior-level design decisions.

The MERAK Experience

  • 100% remote across Canada.
  • Flexible working structure with core collaboration hours (930 AM–330 PM ET).
  • Supportive, low-ego team culture where people help each other succeed.
  • Real-world impact across public sector, education, healthcare, and non-profit clients.
  • A culture that values curiosity, ownership, and continuous improvement.
  • Open communication where ideas are welcomed at every level.
  • Lean, practical delivery approach focused on meaningful outcomes.

Apply If You Are

  • Ready to apply your development fundamentals in a real-world CMS environment.
  • Comfortable learning in a guided, fast-moving environment.
  • Reliable, curious, and willing to take ownership of your work.
  • Looking to transition academic knowledge into applied software development skills.
If it’s a fit, we’ll be in touch.
