Job description

SafelyYou is working to ensure the highest-quality care for seniors in any care setting, anywhere in the world, driven by proven AI, unmatched clinical expertise, and an immeasurable passion for caregiving.

*CANDIDATES MUST BE LOCATED IN THE UNITED STATES OR CANADA**

About SafelyYou

SafelyYou’s passionate mission is to empower safer, more person-centered care across senior living through world-leading AI, industry-changing hardware, and remote expert clinicians, significantly improving outcomes for residents while increasing peace of mind for families and reducing costs for communities.

Originating in 2015 as the doctoral research of CEO George Netscher—and inspired by his own family's experience with Alzheimer's disease—SafelyYou was spun out of UC Berkeley’s Artificial Intelligence Research Lab, one of the top five AI research groups in the world. And today, our company is solving critical challenges in senior living, from resident falls and ER visits to staffing concerns, length of stay, and NOI. All helping ensure that communities can focus on improved care for residents while still reaching their financial goals.

SafelyYou is one of five most innovative fall technologies referenced in the Senate Falls Report (2019), a winner of the McKnight’s Tech Partner of the Year, and has been named to Fortune’s Impact 20 list, which recognizes companies making people’s lives better through innovation.

Your Role at SafelyYou

As a Data Developer at SafelyYou, you will build and maintain data repositories, pipelines, and transformations for customer-facing products, internal tools, and business analytics and operations. You will help scale and enhance the company’s data architecture and reporting capabilities to support new products and services. More specifically, you will work in an event-based architecture to ingest data events, store, organize, and generate reports for analysis.

You will work closely with other developers on the data team, and developers from multiple teams, to define, design, and implement scalable and reliable products and features that use data to improve health care outcomes for the elderly. You will partner with product management, CSM, business operations, and executives to gather and analyze data to understand quality of care trends.

This is a fully remote role. You are expected to work with minimal guidance and proactively identify opportunities for improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and build infrastructure for extraction, transformation, and loading of data from various data sources, including care facilities and medical records, using AWS and database technologies

  • Develop analytical tools to utilize the data pipeline, providing actionable insight into key metrics for health care professionals and executives, which improve the quality of care

  • Work with cross-functional engineering teams, product managers, and other business stakeholders to support their data needs for understanding care trends, improving patient outcomes, and analyzing opportunities to improve services and products

  • Ensure data quality and reliability by developing tests and validating results with ongoing monitoring

  • Create and maintain technical documentation to help maintain and improve systems

  • Work in an Agile environment to plan, track, and improve the delivery of new features and products

  • Collaborate with customer support and operations teams to provide support and participate in on-call rotation as needed

Qualifications

Required

  • 3+ years of professional experience in software or data engineering working at a SaaS company, preferably in a startup environment

  • Experience building and maintaining data pipelines including ETL or ELT data flows

  • Experience with cloud query platforms such as AWS Athena and AWS RDS

  • Experience using Python and PySpark for data processing tasks

  • Familiarity with workflow orchestration concepts and tools, such as Airflow

  • Experience with data analytics and visualization technologies and tools, such as Looker

  • Ability to write efficient SQL queries and improve basic PySpark jobs with guidance

  • Experience contributing to data storage and pipeline solutions with guidance

  • Prioritize quality over speed. When it is done, it is really done.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience in cross-functional team collaboration.

  • Proactive about anticipating and addressing issues before they arise

  • Working-level proficiency with SQL and database concepts and tools

  • Working-level proficiency with data warehouse modeling techniques

Preferred

  • Proficiency with extracting data from REST APIs

  • Exposure to Terraform and Cloud Infrastructure, such as AWS

  • Experience with electronic health records and the associated data privacy regulations is a plus

  • Experience with HL7 data feeds and the FHIR API specification is a plus

  • Experience with remote work and distributed teams
