Job description

Position Summary:

South Country Co-op is hiring a friendly and customer-focused Meat Clerk to join our team at Taber Food Store in Taber, AB. If you’re passionate about providing exceptional customer experiences, we’d love to hear from you!

Reporting to the Meat Manager, the Meat Clerk plays a vital role in delivering exceptional customer service, ensuring quality meat products are packaged, priced, and displayed to the highest standards. This position supports the efficient operation of the department through merchandising, cleanliness, and a commitment to food safety and Co-op values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous customer service
  • Package and label cuts of meat, poultry, and seafood
  • Stock, rotate, and merchandise packaged meat products
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary department environment
  • Follow proper food handling and safety procedures
  • Assist in ordering, receiving, and inventory management
  • Collaborate with the team to uphold operational standards and ensure a positive shopping experience
  • Deliver excellent customer service by assisting customers, promoting merchandise, and ensure customer needs, preferences, and expectations are met
  • Educate customers on the benefits of membership in South Country Co-op
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 15 years of age and completed Grade 9
  • Previous experience in retail or a meat/deli department is preferred
  • Willingness to undergo Meat Cutter training for future advancement
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 20 lbs., occasionally carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Knowledge of ordering and receiving procedures is considered an asset
  • High level of integrity, reliability, and professionalism
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a diverse team
  • Positive attitude with a strong commitment to learning and development
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Physically capable of standing for long periods and performing moderate lifting

Work Schedule:

This position requires full availability, including days, evenings, and weekends.
